Jake was standing in front of his closet. He was surrounded by boxes. Most of the house was packed up so now all that was left was for Jake to pack up his clothes and to make sure Avery's toys were boxed away. As far as furniture went, Jake was going to put it in storage and eventually sell most of it, and Avery's bedroom set was going to Andy's apartment.
Andy had a nice place, but it wasn't huge so he needed to downsize. Not to mention all the memories tied to certain things that Jake didn't want to be reminded of anymore.
Jake pulled a shirt off the rack and looked at it briefly before he tossed it into a box. He wasn't going to bother folding anything or taking them off of hangers since it was a twenty minute drive to Andy's apartment.
There were a stack of framed photos on the dresser that he still didn't know what to do with that he was ignoring. They were memories of his daughter growing up that he wouldn't get back if he threw them away, but they had Clara in them so he didn't necessarily want them displayed anymore. Jake would just pop them out of them frames and figure out what to do with them later on when he could actually look at them.
He looked at a sweatshirt he's had for years now. It was one of his favorite shirts. It was warm and well worn... but Clara gave it to him. Jake immediately tossed it into the giveaway pile. He could buy another sweatshirt. Now to move on to t-shirts and flannels.
He got all of his band shirts packed fairly quickly, and ended up getting rid of almost all of his flannels because of course Clara bought most of them. The only ones he ended up keeping were two that he had bought long before he met Clara and one that Andy had given him.
Jake then moved on to his more dressy clothes. He held up a navy blue sweater, and squinted at it. He couldn't even remember ever wearing that, let alone buying it. Jake tossed it into the ever growing giveaway pile and pulled out a black button down that he already knew he was going to keep.
Jake had told Alex and CC that if there was anything furniture wise that they wanted, Jake would leave it there. He had no use for it anymore. All of it minus Avery's bedroom set that Jake's dad had bought were things he and Clara had picked out for the home. Jake had no use for any of it.
He picked up a cream Henley and frowned for a moment. He hadn't seen that one before either. Maybe Clara had bought them for Jake and he couldn't remember? She was always trying to dress him a certain way. Always trying to change Jake into someone he wasn't.
Jake found a few things his mom had gotten him that he couldn't bare to part with for sentimental reasons, so he put them in one of the boxes.
The further Jake went into the back of his closet, the more he was finding things that he didn't recognize. "Jesus, how long has it been since I cleaned this fucker out?" He grumbled to himself as he pulled a pair of loafers out of the top of the closet. Those were definitely a Clara purchase, he would never wear those.
Jake turned them over, but paused when he saw the size on the bottom of the shoe. They were a men's size eight... Jake most certainly did not wear an eight. Clara knew his size, there was no way she bought the wrong size by mistake.
Jake turned around and walked over to the giveaway pile and dug through it. Everything was a size large. Jake wore smalls and mediums.
Jake started laughing a little deliriously, and stumbled on his feet. He dropped the clothes into a heap on the floor, and stared at nothing in particular as he continued to laugh.
So it was confirmed. He had been in Jake's home before. Many, many times by the looks of it. Clara was hiding his clothes in the back of the closet where she knew Jake never looked.
