Avery was sitting outside on the grass, picking at the grass as she waited for soccer practice to wrap up so she should go home.
She looked up when she heard a car pull up, and smiled when she saw it was Andy. She shot up from her spot, and ran for the car. "Hi, uncle Andy!" She waved excitedly.
"Hi, honey." Andy smiled, picking her up off the ground. "How was practice?" He asked, carrying her to the backseat so he could help her into her carseat.
"It was fun." She said, ecstatic to see Andy there. Andy picking her up from practice meant one thing.
Ice cream.
Andy always got her ice cream on the way home. She looked forward to it every time she saw Andy's car pull up.
"What happened to your knee, Avie?" Andy asked in concern when he looked down and saw a scrape.
"I fell, but it's okay. It didn't hurt that much." Avery shrugged.
Andy smiled at her and leaned forward to kiss her forehead. "I'm glad it didn't. I think this calls for a hot fudge sundae though." He said.
"Yay!" Avery cheered, bouncing in her carseat as Andy closed the door and got into the driver's seat.
The drive was short to the ice cream parlor Andy always took her to and once they arrived, the two made their way in.
"I'll take one hot fudge sundae and one scoop of black forest cherry please." Andy told the girl behind the counter. "Coming right up! Rough day at practice?" She asked, looking down at Avery.
"Yeah, but Kevin got in my way." Avery shrugged.
Andy looked down at her. "I'm sorry, did you tackle another kid?" He asked in shock.
"No, I knocked him over and skinned my knee." Avery corrected as if that wasn't essentially the same thing.
Andy covered his mouth to hide his laughter, and looked to the girl behind the counter who seemed to be doing the same. "Please don't do that."
"Yeah, miss Williams told me it was soccer, not football, but auntie Alice calls it football." She said, picking off a blade of grass stuck to her uniform.
"Oh my god." Andy whispered under his breath. "Please tell your dad about this while I'm there." He asked.
"Okay." Avery smiled, unaware of the reason why her uncle wanted her to do that.
"Here you are." The girl said, handing Andy their ice cream. "You certainly have a handful." She said with a giggle.
"Don't I know it." Andy smiled.
"Is she an only child?" She asked.
"She is yeah." Andy nodded, handing Avery a spoon and her sundae.
"I figured. I've only seen you and her other dad bring her in here." The employee said, wiping down her station.
"Oh, I'm-." Andy started to correct her, but a persistent little hand tugging at his arm cut him off.
"Come on!" She giggled, pulling Andy towards the door.
"Okay, okay! God, you're more impatient than Jake, jesus." Andy laughed, waving towards the girl behind the counter before he followed Avery back outside to his car.
A handful was absolutely an understatement.
Andy drove them home in record time, LA traffic letting up surprisingly. He opened the front door, letting Avery run ahead of him.
"Hi, daddy!" Avery greeted.
"Hi, pumpkin! How was prac- what happened to your knee?" Jake said, immediately clocking the scrape.
