Jake laid in bed, waiting for a phone call, a text, an email, something. It had bed four days since his phone call with Clara and he had fully expected to hear something from her, her family, or her attorney even.
But it was still radio silence.
Jake was convinced that once he made it clear that she wouldn't get her life back as soon as she asked for it. After she threw it away like it had meant nothing to her. He thought she would immediately try to get visitation or even custody. That didn't happen though.
Jake had sent a few casual texts to his former in laws, not asking them, but leaving the door open for them to bring it up, but they didn't. At this point, he didn't think they even knew about the phone call.
Andy rolled over, throwing a leg over Jake's and wrapping an arm around him. His breathing was still deep and steady so Jake knew he was still asleep.
He and Andy have yet to tell Avery about their relationship. It wasn't that they were worried about her reaction, they just wanted to wait and see what Clara was going to do. Jake didn't want to throw a relationship at his daughter only for her mother to start a custody battle.
It wasn't that Jake was apposed to Clara being in Avery's life in some capacity. If she wanted visitation or something, he would be fine with it. However, he knew his ex wife, and knew she could he incredibly spiteful so the possibility of her going for 50/50 or getting majority was high.
He doubted she would actually get it considering he had more than enough proof that she abandoned his daughter, but the court battle would be draining.
Jake kissed Andy's forehead lovingly, running his fingers through his hair as he laid there thinking. It was actually pretty easy to keep their relationship a secret from Avery. She went to bed so early that they had plenty of time in the evenings to spend together, and since they were already affectionate, all they had to do was avoid kissing around her.
This definitely wasn't how Jake imagined dating again would be like, but he was happier than he's been in a very long time.
Jake had thought he had the perfect marriage, but looking back, it was stagnant. He was so used to his comfort that he couldn't see that his relationship had fizzled out romantically. Jake could somewhat understand where Clara was coming from. Did that excuse her cheating? Fuck no! She should have come to him and expressed her feelings, and Jake would have tried to fix it whether it be more regular date nights, or even counseling.
Hindsight truly was 20/20.
Jake wasn't happy in his marriage, he was content.
That was a difficult pill to swallow for Jake. He thought of all the ways he could 'fix' things and found himself wondering if it would have even done anything.
"You're thinking too hard." Andy mumbled, pressing a kiss to Jake's jaw.
"Hmm?" Jake hummed in amusement, turning his head to look at his lover- Jake still pinched himself that he was able to call Andy that.
"Your jaw is tense as hell and you keep furrowing your brows together." Andy pointed out, raising up to prop himself up on one arm. He lifted a hand up, and smoothed his fingers over Jake's brow. "You always do that when you're thinking too much."
Jake smiled, closing his eyes. He pulled Andy over until he was straddling his lap, running his hands over his hips and thighs. Andy really did know him better than almost anyone.
"What are you thinking about, honey?" Andy asked, leaning down to kiss the tip of Jake's nose.
"My marriage." Jake replied, resting his hand on the back of Andy's neck and pulled him down into a kiss.
