E's age: Idk probably like 16 or 17(ish)

Father grabbed Espresso's shirt collar and bashed his head against the hardwood floor once more as a cruel, sadistic grin spread across his face.

Espresso's sobs and screams rang through the otherwise quiet house as he grabbed his father's arms, desperately begging him to stop. His sobs and pleas left his father completely unfazed as he kept bashing his head onto the floor.

"Look at you," Father said, scoffing as Espresso coughed, practically choking on his own blood. "You're pathetic. You can't even handle a little beating." He let go of his shirt collar and watched as his son's weak body fell against the blood-stained wooden floor with a thud.

Espresso's tear-filled eyes looked up at his father. He couldn't see him very well, since his glasses had unsurprisingly fallen off, but he could clearly make out the cruel grin that spread across Father's face as he stifled a laugh. "...I-" He coughed, his bruised arms barely holding his body up. "I-I'm sorry." God, his head was pounding.

"Hm," His father hummed a response as he looked away staring into the distance. He sighed, watching as Espresso tried to keep his body upright. "Your grades have been going down."

Those words made Espresso freeze. He felt himself tense up as his breath caught in his throat.

"Would you like to tell me why exactly your grades have been going down?"

His father's cold, emotionless voice sent shivers down his spine. He let out a breath through his split-open and bleeding lips. "I dunno," He muttered, not meeting his Father's gaze. "I've just been distracted."

"Distracted by what, Espresso?" He crossed his arms his eyes narrowed.

He hesitated, which earned him a swift slap across his bruised and bleeding face. He let out a yelp as he flinched back, bringing a hand up to cup his stinging cheek.

"Answer me!"

Espresso knew that Madeleine was the reason he was being distracted in school. All he could think about was Madeleine. But he knew he could never tell his father that. "I don't know," He said firmly.

"There's a reason," His father said through gritted teeth as he leaned down, threateningly close to his face. "I know there is. And you're going to tell me so I can put an end to this."

He stayed silent, staring up at him with hate.

Father tensed up, his eyes narrowing. "Fine. Give me your phone."

"What?"

"Give me your phone," He ordered, holding out his hand expectantly. "I've realized I give you too much privacy and freedom in this house. If you can't be bothered to treat me with basic respect, why should I treat you with respect?"

He stared at him, slowly reaching into his pocket and pulling out his phone. He handed it to him, wincing as he snatched it from his hands. "What are you doing?"

He scoffed. "Looking through your phone." Espresso watched as his father began to check his photos. "You're grounded after I'm done too. You'll get your phone back once you learn to respect me." His eyes narrowed as he came across a photo of him and Madeleine posing and smiling. Madeleine had his arm wrapped around Espresso's shoulder. "What's this?"

Espresso felt his shoulders tense up. "Just... me and a friend," He mumbled.

Father stared at the photo for another second. "This is the boy you kissed." His voice was cold as he turned to stare at his son.

Espresso looked away, feeling his hands start to tremble. His face heated up as he tried to defend himself. "Well- Y-Yeah. Yeah, that's him."

He watched as his father's arm flew up to hit him. "You fucking-"
