AN: A small disclaimer (just to note that this is a fanfiction and the only character I personally own is the main character Melody Snape). This story will be written through the Harry Potter books, except with a small twist. Because the original books are based off Harry Potter's perspective, these will be written in my main character's perspective through her own personal experiences while being at Hogwarts. This book will be started from the point of view of Chamber of Secrets (the OC is a year younger than Harry, so she wasn't around for his first year at Hogwarts).

An owl, Ares, came to the window, perched on the windowsill waiting for someone to open it and take the envelope tied to her foot.

"See what that's about." Severus gestured to the window before going back to his copy of this morning's Daily Prophet.

I stood up from the table, mouthful of breakfast biscuit as I unlatched the window and gave the owl a little head scratch. "Hey Ares," I smiled at the gorgeous snowy white owl as she entered the house, "Hope Draco at least let you rest before sending you out to us." Ares was the owl Lucius got me for my tenth birthday, as a way to help Draco and I still talk while he went off to school for his first year. My dad couldn't really afford one of our own, so he was gracious enough to supply one so Draco and I wouldn't have to use one of theirs so often. Lucius and Narcissa also allow for her to stay at The Manor since she's usually always there anyway; Ares has her own little corner perch for whenever she feels the need to rest between letters (Draco made the space for her- even if he wouldn't admit to it). I opened the envelope which pertained a letter from Draco, as well as another list of some sort.

"Hey Mel. First day at Hogwarts in a few days. I know Ares deserves a rest, but I just wanted to send you a 'Congratulations on getting into Hogwarts!' note. Not that you wouldn't had gotten a letter. Your father's kind of a legacy there. Father was just wondering if maybe you'd want to tag along with us to pick up the supplies we need from Diagon Alley. Father has some errands to do first, but you can join as long as your father's cool. Send Ares back as soon as possible with the answer. Hope to see you soon! - Draco Malfoy"

"It's just Draco congratulating me for getting my letter, dad."

"That's nice of him."

"And-" I held the letter out to him, "Lucius also offered for me to tag along with them to Diagon Alley." I looked to my father with pleading eyes full of hope, "Oh please let me go with them." I knew my father was always a bit skeptical about me hanging around The Malfoys, but he should've thought about that before raising me with their son.

"I don't know." He looked up from his paper, taking the letter and glancing over it himself.

"I know you don't actually want to go to Diagon Alley, dad."

"I may." He told me, "It's not often your daughter gets to go shopping for her first year of school."

"Dad, the only times I've really left this house was to go to The Manor, or to see Professor Dumbledore at Hogwarts. Even then, it was during breaks so I couldn't see those my own age." I looked to him with pleading eyes again, interlocking my fingers together as I brought my hands to my face, "Please, daddy. You know I'll be safe when I'm with them."

He reached out to cup my cheek in his palm, before pushing a strand of my jet black hair behind my ear. His eyes locked onto my own before looking away again, "Go ahead. Write and tell Draco you can join them."

Smiling, I grabbed some parchment and a quill from one of the kitchen drawers before sitting down at the table once more and pushing the plate of what's left of my breakfast aside.
