The news about Colin Creevey's attack had already been spread across the entire school by Monday morning. The Hogwarts air had now been thick with rumor and suspicion. First years now move around the castle in groups, as if they're scared that they'd get attacked the very second they went off somewhere by themselves. The youngest Weasley girl, Ginny, had been pretty distraught. Even her older brothers couldn't cheer her up. I couldn't blame her. As a first year myself, I couldn't help but wonder why all this had to happen now. Or, honestly, at all. All over the school, while keeping it hidden from the Professors' sights, there was a trade going about in talismans, amulets, and any other protective devices that people could think to pass around. The Slytherins were chuckling about how the Gryffindor, Neville Longbottom, had bought a large, evil-smelling green onion, a pointed purple crystal, and a rotting newt-tail... Something about how he was unlikely to actually be attacked, being Pure-Blood and all. I didn't really care much about the Slytherin monster as much. Of course, being Half-Blood, I'd probably be safe anyway... besides, it's not like the Heir of Slytherin would ever attack someone of their own House (even though majority of the House are all "pure blood", so they were in fact safe no matter what).
By the second week of December, there had already been talks about who was staying at school during Christmas break and who were planning on going back home. My father usually went around the Slytherin common room to collect the names of those who'd be staying. I was an obvious yes. No way was my father about to send me off during Christmas break while he stayed in the castle, especially since Draco was also staying at the school during break as well. His father's say. Something about how it would be a pretty bad time to come back home... might as well stay at Hogwarts. Once I relayed the message to Harry, Ron, and Hermione, they all signed their names on McGonagall's list. Something about how the holidays would make for the perfect time to use the Polyjuice Potion with Malfoy; especially while most of the school are away and not swarming the corridors. The potion is still only half-finished, though. We only needed the Bicorn horn and Boomslang skin, unable to get ourselves some before now considering the only place you could find the items was from my father's private stores. A place he takes pride in making sure he knows exactly what he stores in there, where he keeps each item, and his organization skill is impeccable.
Gathered outside the Potions classroom, I stood close by to the three of them. Harry wrapped his invisibility cloak around me so there wasn't a chance my father would catch me and question why'd I be gathered with a class that wasn't mine. Pretty nice cloak, I might add. Apparently, he received it as a gift last Christmas, an item that originally belonged to his father. Quite impressive. Draco doesn't even own one of these. I'm sure if we asked, Lucius may have brought one for us to use... but Narcissa would give the two of us an immediate no. Not that I can say I'd blame her. Something about not wanting to supply us with yet another reason to get us into trouble while going about the Manor during our childhood.
"How could we get past, ya know, to grab what we need from the stores?" Harry whispered to us.
"What we need," Hermione answered briskly, "is a diversion. That way one of us can sneak into Snape's office and take what we need."
Harry and Ron both looked at her, nervous looks quickly spreading across the face.
"I'd better do the actual stealing." Hermione continued, "You two will be expelled if you get into more trouble, and I've got a clean record. So-"
"I should be the one to do it." I spoke up, cutting Hermione off. "I'm not actually supposed to be in this class, so my father wouldn't notice if a student was missing from their desk. Plus, the cloak hides a person very well, and I know how he keeps his stores. Just have to grab the Bicorn horn and Boomslang skin. Sounds easy enough." I added.
