We opened the door of the bathroom carefully, checking that the coast was clear and setting off.
"Don't swing your arms like that," I muttered to Ron.
"Eh?" Ron asked.
"Crabbe holds them sort of stiff..."
"How's this?"
"Yeah, that's better." I told him.
The boys followed me down the marble staircase as I led them towards the dungeons. Stopping them suddenly as a girl with long, curly hair emerged from the dungeon entrances. Her robe displaying a blue coloring with a Ravenclaw crest on the chest. Once she walked away, we hurried down the stone steps into darkness, our footsteps echoing particularly loudly as Crabbe and Goyle's huge feet hit the floor. The labyrinthine passages were pretty much deserted as we walked deeper and deeper under the school.
After a quarter of an hour, there was a sudden movement ahead. As we quietly hurried closer to the figure, I heard a deep sigh come from Crabbe's mouth. Percy Weasley. Of course.
"What're you doing down here?" said Ron in surprise.
Percy had a look of offense on his face. "That," he spoke stiffly, "is none of your business. It's Crabbe, isn't it?"
"Wh- Oh, yeah." said Ron.
"Well, get off to your dormitories." Percy said sternly, "It's not safe to go wandering around dark corridors these days."
"You're wandering about." I pointed out.
"I," said Percy, drawing himself up, "am a Prefect. Nothing's about to attack me."
"Nothing'll attack you anyway," I told him, "Aren't you Weasleys Pureblood?"
A familiar voice suddenly echoed behind us as Draco came towards us.
"There you are," He drawled out, looking at Crabbe and Goyle before his eyes fell onto me, "Why didn't you tell me they were with you, Melody? I've been looking for you guys... wanted to show you something really funny." Malfoy found himself glancing at Percy, "And what're you doing down here, Weasley?"
Percy appeared outraged, "You'd want to show a bit more respect to a school Prefect!"
"I don't like your attitude!" Malfoy sneered back, motioning for the rest of us to follow him.
"Sorry." I told Percy quickly before hurrying after Draco just as he turned into the next passage.
"That Peter Weasley-"
"Percy." I corrected him automatically.
"Whatever." spoke Draco, "I've been noticing him sneaking around a lot lately... and I bet I know what he's up to."
"He's probably just trying to kiss up to the Professors," I spoke up, "being school Prefect and all."
"He thinks he's going to catch Slytherin's heir single-handed." Draco gave off a short, derisive laugh.
"What if he did?" I asked him, "Find the heir, that is."
"Don't be silly." Draco turned towards me, "What is with you, Melody? Being so interested in the Heir lately- You would think-"
"You know why I'm interested." I told him, trying to signal our last conversation so I didn't have to say it in front of Harry and Ron.
"I've told you, Melody." He told me, "You cannot be the Heir."
"I'd feel much safer with that if I just knew who it was." I told him. Hopefully Harry and Ron just thought I was attempting to grill Draco- making it seem as if I was trying to get him to admit his truth.
