Midoriya couldn't believe it. His classmates really couldn't be trusted. He needed to do something to keep them off his trail, something that would stop their suspicions. Suddenly, an idea popped into his mind.
When he returned to the dorms, he spotted most of his classmates gathered around the couch, deeply engrossed in a movie. He made his way over and found Mina and the others sitting on the carpet nearby.
"Hey, Midoriya!" Mina greeted with a smile.
"Hey!" Kirishima chimed in.
"Welcome back. Isn't it a little late?" Uraraka asked, her voice tinged with concern.
"Where were you?" Jirou questioned, an accusatory note in her tone.
"Are you okay?" Momo inquired, worry evident in her eyes.
He paused, gathering his thoughts before speaking up. "Well, I was okay... until I went into my room and found things out of place. You guys went through it, didn't you?" He allowed a hint of venom to seep into his voice, doing his best to sound genuinely hurt.
The TV clicked off, and a heavy silence fell over the group. The boys looked bewildered, while the girls exchanged guilty glances, fully aware of what he was referring to.
"Oh..." Momo whispered, her voice filled with regret.
"We're really sorry! We didn't mean to snoop," Uraraka apologized earnestly.
"Then why did you do it? Are you really that fake? That untrustworthy?" Midoriya's frustration was palpable.
"Woah, what are you guys talking about?" Kirishima interjected, looking from one person to another in confusion.
"Sneaking into his room?" Kaminari echoed, furrowing his brows.
"That is very unheroic! What could you possibly have needed?" Iida added, his disapproval unmistakable.
"Uh, Midoriya, are you sure you're not reading too much into this?" Sero suggested, trying to calm things down.
"You've been acting so different lately. Can you blame us?" Jirou challenged, her glare sharp.
Midoriya sighed, deciding it was time for the next part of his plan. "You want to know why I keep leaving? Why I'm so secretive these days? Fine. I'll tell you. My mother has a very bad disease... she's literally dying. I didn't realize you all felt the need to snoop into everything I do. I thought I could trust you. I even heard some of you think I'm a villain. Me? Really?" He shook his head, feigning hurt. "I've always been honest with you. I try to tell you everything, but maybe that trust is gone now. I'd never do anything to hurt any of you!"
He forced his voice to crack as he spoke, willing himself to look sad. A quick glance around the room showed it was working—some of the girls looked ashamed, and the rest of the class seemed genuinely concerned.
"I'm going back to my room. Don't knock unless it's an emergency," he declared, turning on his heel and heading down the hall. As soon as he was out of sight, a small smile broke out on his face. That seemed to work! Great. Now, I just need to do a bit of damage control.
Back in his room, he started tidying up, rearranging things to make it look less "cryptic." Then he noticed his computer. Right. This was supposed to be with Karma today... I'll give it to him tomorrow. He needs it for training before his mission on Tuesday.
He moved to his closet, but his heart dropped when he saw that his weapons had been moved. This was bad. Being caught with unapproved weapons on campus could get him expelled. He hoped none of his classmates had discovered them. Then he remembered—Okuda had been with the girls during their search. She would've prevented them from finding anything.
