"Happy Hunger games, and may the odds be ever in your favor."
- The Hunger Games Series
He felt alone. Curled up into a ball beside the bed frame of his dead mother. It was cold as he attempted to seek warmth through his thin and worn out clothes. He was hungry as his stomach growled for days with nothing to eat in the room. Perhaps he should just succumb to a never ending sleep. To join his mother once and for all.
But as he lost hope of it all, in the dark filled with only his thoughts, the door creaked open ever so lightly. The light from outside the room peaked inside as a silhouette of a man wearing a hat and a trench coat entered, pausing after seeing the sight before him. The child filled with nothing but skin and bones by the bedside of his deceased mother for who knows how long, it started to smell like death though, the man noted.
He took pity for the child, and so, he felt obligated to take care of him seeing as they were connected with one another by blood. Bringing the child out of the room, he fed and took care of him. All eyes were on the duo as he watched the boy hungrily eat the stale bread that was in front of him.
The boy couldn't even taste anything from that bread, it was bland, too bland even. The texture was bad as well, but his stomach seemed to enjoy it so he didn't mind. After eating, the man introduced himself. Kenny. Just Kenny. And the boy said his name as a form of greeting. Levi. Just Levi.
"Let's go somewhere, yeah? It's my favorite time of the year, thought 'ya could get some entertainment in this shitty place." Kenny said as he stood up from the old bench with Levi following suit with interest in mind.
Climbing up the roof of a broken house, Kenny sat in the middle where it was safe for both of them, free from the chances of slipping. Levi sat beside him, words not leaving his dry mouth. "D'you know the thing I always look forward to ain't my birthday, nor any other celebration. My favorite time of the year would always be the Hunger games." And just as Kenny said those words, a gunshot rang all throughout the underground. It seems as though the entire place stopped from whatever they were doing. Crimes, bardens, selling, and anything, all was still–It seems it wasn't just Kenny who looked forward to these so-called "hunger games", whatever that meant–Except for 12 people.
Kenny let out the widest grin, pointing at one of the 12 runners for Levi to look in the same direction as his. "Look at 'er go!" She ran. She hid. She climbed. The girl Kenny was pointing at was no older than Levi. Her face was young but her eyes. Her eyes held the innocence of a child but the anger of an adult. She was afraid as well. Her white hair swayed with the way her body moved after every step in her sprint.
She kept looking behind her, and Levi noticed a man. The man was twice her size–could even be twice her age too–he held a dagger as he ran and ran after the white haired girl, clearly enjoying the cat and mouse chase, knowing that he was at an advantage against a mere girl.
The girl climbed through stacked boxes and garbage to the roof of the house, just a few blocks away from Levi and Kenny, still being followed. Jumping from roof to roof was easy, after all they were close to each other, only separated by a few meters. "She's quite a runner ain't she? But with that run, she wouldn't be able to stop herself before she falls to her death. The edge of the roof she's running towards has spikes on the ground set up by thieves of the underground. Come on Levi, let's get closer!" Kenny and Levi ran, following the path the girl took, to get a closer look of what could happen.
She was getting closer to the edge, and at the corner of her eye, she could see something on the ground. She knew she wouldn't be able to stop in time as she neared the edge of the roof. But if she couldn't stop herself, then so could the man. And so with a clever idea in mind, she ran fast. Pushed her aching legs to speed up so that the man would as well, hearing a few wood crack beneath her feet. With a small smile, she quickly changed her direction as she reached the edge, shocking the chaser. Filled with shock and speed, he couldn't stop himself in time and fell to his death. Looking to the ground where he fell into, there she saw him bleeding through his skin-tight black outfit (the outfit all 12 of the runners wore to differentiate themselves from the underground citizens but also blend in well with them), he was pierced with sharp wood that was clearly carved out, didn't think it would actually benefit her in any way. She silently thanked whomever set that up. And went down to grab something from the man and climb back up to continue her mindless run.
Kenny let out the loudest laugh while Levi remained still. His eyes followed her running figure. Another figure appeared in front of her. Perhaps her hair was a disadvantage for her. No one had a head full of white hair so she was an easy target. As the new figure attempted to slash her with a knife at hand, the girl swiftly dodged and from Levi's point of view, did something to immobilize the new person. What did she do? He couldn't tell. "She's clever. Got the face of a child, the cleverness of a teen, and the fight technique of an expert adult. What a girl!" Clearly, Kenny rooted for the girl. Maybe Levi, too.
Through the young girl, Kenny took this as an opportunity to teach some tips and tricks to Levi as a form of survival, especially since he lives underground, where anything can happen in the blink of an eye. The two enjoyed the way she moved and stealthily escaped her enemies twice her size. Though everything must come to an end. Following her from a distance, Levi closely watched as she fought with all her might despite the fatigue she could be feeling. With a dagger in her hand, she jumped at the young woman and slashed her throat. Ignoring the blood stains on her white hair and skin-tight clothes, she took the red bandanas from the dead woman and climbed to the roof of the nearest house. "Those bandanas..." Levi pointed out in question.
"After every kill, to claim them as your own, you must grab their bandanas and the bandanas of those who got killed by the one you killed. The point of the hunger games is to kill or be killed. Choose to run or to fight. In order for the games to end, one survivor from all 12 runners must be the last man standing with all 12 of the red bandanas." Explained by Kenny, watching the girl with her arms covered in red bandanas bring her right fist in front of her heart and raise it up. A clear sign that she won. She was the last man standing. All cheered in the underground as she dropped to her knees, clearly tired from all that. "Let's go Levi, 'ya got a lot to learn." Kenny stood up and jumped off the roof, Levi followed along. And after that eventful day, it became a tradition for Levi to look forward to the Hunger games every year and watch out for the head full of white hair.

A/N: Hey guys lmfao I'm back, honestly I deleted my old published stories because I was cringing at them, I couldn't take it anymore.
Anyways I wrote this story, because I am deprived of a good Levi x oc fic where they're both on par with each other and it isn't cringe. So please do recommend if you guys have any TT
I got inspired by both Hunger games and house of the dragons to write this fic, so don't be surprised if you see parallels from the two here.
Though the hunger games in this book is quite different to what is in the books and movie... so I hope you guys enjoyed!
