"The whole world is an arena and we need the hunger games to remind us who we are."
- Coriolanus Snow, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
It's been a year since Levi's first hunger games as a spectator. And it was finally time once again for the 11th Hunger games, he knew this because he saw the posters stuck on the wall and the people making bets again on who would be the next victor. Allani Snow. People repeated her name like it was the only thing they could mutter out of their tongues, almost everyone idolized her, how a young girl managed to beat 11 veterans, in her first year at that. Everywhere you went, there wouldn't be a single house without a single poster of her face in it. Levi would even close his eyes and a picture of her face would still appear.
To look forward to the games was an understatement for Levi. He was excited, though he never really showed it on his face. He counted the days of when it was finally time, and when it finally was, Levi climbed on a roof and sat there expectantly, searching through the grounds for one specific head of white hair.
He was never like this, never felt much emotion other than when his mother died or when Kenny found him only to be left again. He never felt such urging emotions and it baffled him that he could actually feel this way, so when he heard the gunshot ringing all throughout the underground, he immediately spotted just who he was looking for. He was rooting for her, perhaps because they were the same age and she still managed to beat people twice her size. You could even say he idolized her and her skills, hoping he could move like that one day, though he would never admit that.
His eyes stayed focused on the running figure, and noticed her hair in a half up, half down braid. This is where he'll learn new skills, so he followed her closely but still at a good distance so as not to get in the middle of the fight.
Footsteps were heard and there he saw someone approaching Allani. He saw the way she held onto two knives and flipped the other to make the point of the knife face her elbows while her other knife on her other hand pointed to the front. She moved on her toes and was silent, avoiding all attempted slashes coming at her as she spun and directly went for the person's throat, gone in an instant with blood now splattering on her braided hair. Taking the red bandage wrapped around the person's arm, she tied it around her biceps and continued on her run.
Unconsciously, Levi dug around his pocket and reached for the knife he was given by Kenny and followed the same move she did; twirling the knife so that it would point to his elbow rather than the front, like how people would usually do it. It felt better to hold it this way, preventing him from getting any cramps. He ought to try it out on someone once he has the chance.
Hours passed and Allani still stood tall despite the blood of those she killed that clung to her. Counting the amount of bands that she had, Levi noted that there was only one more to go. There stood a man with a build every one would fawn over and there stood a girl who was much smaller than him. They were facing each other and a small part of Allani felt intimidated at the sheer strength her opponent had as she observed his body.
