Suddenly, Biana blinked into view, just a few feet behind Elysian. "Nice try, Miss Vacker, but you can't fool me." Elysian used her telekinesis to throw Biana over to her friends, who helped her up.
"What are you doing here?!" Fitz asked her angrily.
"Improvising," was Biana's only response.
"If I may continue," said Elysian. "After I had secured myself a spot in the Collective, it was easy to convince them to go through with Project Moonlark. Keefe, of course, had already been born, which was exactly as I'd planned. Gisela's mind was just as malleable as Mr. Forkle's. She and Cassius drank the elixirs that I supplied them, and by the time both organization's plans commenced, mine had already been active for just shy of a decade. Then, I used some more elixirs so that I would be unrecognizable to any elf who saw me, and made a resume for a prime candidate for embryo planting. It worked, of course, and I had you, Sophie. I wanted to be a parental figure in your life so that you could turn out exactly how I wanted. It wasn't perfect, and you're more rebellious and loyal then I expected, but it didn't matter. Then, of course, the rest is history. You were found, introduced to the Lost Cities, blah blah blah. I made sure you came into contact with Mr. Sencen, which, from what I can see, has worked out well."
"But how did you keep such close tabs on us?" Keefe asked. It'd been in the back of his mind since the start of Elysian's monologue, and he couldn't stop himself from asking it.
"Well, similar to your beloved Mr. Forkle, I am very good at the art of deception. I have quite a few different aliases. We've already discussed Wraith and Emma, but I've also masqueraded as Councilor Alina, Lady Dara, and another. But before I say this, for the sake of Sophie's health, I ask that she sit down."
Elysian was smiling maniacally, which didn't assure Keefe that she had Sophie's best interests in mind, but he squeezed her hand anyways.
"You know, usually, it's Stina that's overdramatic, but this is at a whole other level of stupid." He found himself saying to Elysian. Her smile unnerved him, and he was seething at her for manipulating both him and Sophie.
"Quite the contrary, Mr. Sencen. This news deserves every bit of build up that I give it. My last alias was a member of the Black Swan."
"Did you say was?" Sophie asked.
"You heard me correctly, Sophie. I was Jolie Ruewen."
