2:16 AM , THE BRONX NY

IT WAS DARK OUT, the only thing illuminating your room was the moonlight pouring in through the curtains. You were waiting for your boyfriend, Kevin, to get home from the studio. It was 2:16 AM and you couldn't sleep. Usually you would have fallen asleep by now, even without him. You had faint music playing on your TV to pass time, music always helped.

You grabbed your phone, opening the messages app and about to text him. You stopped abruptly, reading the past messages you sent hours ago asking where he was and when he would get home. Of course, he answered blankly so you let it go. Deciding not to text him, you put your phone under your pillow, the moonlight pouring inside captivating you.

That quickly ended, your attention span breaking by the sound of keys jingling and the front door opening and closing. It was silent before footsteps were heard, your bedroom door opening quietly. You looked up with half lidded eyes, meeting eyes with a familiar figure. Kevin.

He made his way over to you, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead. "Shhh, why you still up? Go to sleep, ma." He mumbled, before pulling away and moving over to your dresser where some of his spare clothes were.

Grabbing his towel and clothes, he went into the bathroom, starting up a shower. You rested your head back against your pillow, awaiting for his presence to return. It would be about 20 minutes until he would return from his shower and you were practically half asleep when he was done.

You felt the bed dip down next to you and strong arms wrapping themselves around your waist, making your eyes snap open. "Why you aint asleep yet, baby?" He mumbled, kissing your cheek softly. You hummed in response, your eyes half lidded as he buried his face into your neck.

He didn't even have to ask you that question, he already knew the answer. You were waiting for him, and he knew that. He would prefer for you to fall asleep before he came home, he didnt want you to stay up for him. You usually fell asleep without him.

He yawned, kissing your brow and rubbing his hand over your stomach. He sighed before speaking, "Thank you for waiting on my ass." He spoke with gratitude, "I love you." He mumbled, kissing the side of your neck. You spoke quietly, "I love you too." He wasnt lying when he told you that he loved you. You made him feel normal, as if he wasn't running the streets. You made him feel new, he wanted to better himself for you. You understood the things he did and why he did them, but he would still wish he was a different person. You deserved the best. You were his motivation for everything. Everything he did was for you, he wanted to keep you safe, fed, and healthy. It was his main goal.

He focused his attention back to you and his surroundings, no longer stuck in his thoughts like he was prior. It was silent, an oddly comfortable silence, the only sound heard was his soft breathing and yours, as well as the bed creaking from his movements. His hand rubbed your stomach, as he was spooning you, his head resting in the back of your neck. He pressed soft kisses to your skin in hopes that it would lull you to sleep, and it would work.

You felt your eyes growing even heavier, your eyes finally shutting and your mind at ease. His warmth comforted you, his presence assuring you. It wouldn't take long until he fell asleep, he followed right after you, falling into a deep sleep. It was all he needed after a long day. He was grateful to come home to you.

He was grateful to come home to you
