The sun peaked through the windows, making Ningguang aware of the time.
She sat up and stretched before looking to her side, her wife still blissfully asleep.
"Beidou, it's time to get up." She said, earning a groan. "Kazuha needs to get to school early today."
Conceding, the brunette rolled over to stand, her ruby eye holding her exhaustion.
"Is he up?" She groggily said as she approached the door, earning a small shrug from her spouse.
Their question was soon answered when they made their way downstairs, planning to start morning coffee before waking their son.
"Morning." The platinum haired teen greeted, cheerily rushing around the kitchen in search of ingredients for breakfast. "I hope you don't mind me making breakfast, mama, you looked so relaxed when I went to wake you up earlier."
"It's perfectly fine Kazuha, it gives the two of us time to get ready for today. Don't take too long, remember you have an early day today." Ningguang replied, lightly pushing her wife to stand up again.
She enjoyed her 'mundane' routine of waking up to a peaceful brunette and hurriedly getting her son ready for his day at school since the day they adopted the boy when he was small.
A work colleague had mentioned regrettably having to put her child up for adoption so they would avoid homelessness and had asked the white haired woman to take him in while she got her finances in check. Days became weeks, and weeks became months, leading Ningguang to sit down with her wife and discuss what they were going to do with the kindergartener sleeping on their sofa.
"It wouldn't help him to be in the system, and he seems to love it here. I say we keep him." She remembered the hopeful gleam in Beidou's eye that day as the little boy stirred.
She remembered how his eyes grew wide in excitement when his mother kneeled down to his level and told him that he would be staying with them forever.
The smile that graced Ningguang's lips wasn't subtle and it helped boost the mood in the room even further.
"I'm going by Scara after school today, thought you two should get some downtime after running behind me all semester." The boy shouted as his mothers walked away, earning a thumbs up in acknowledgement.
"He's grown so much..." The white haired woman commented as she prepared her clothes for the day, her wife settling for a black v-neck shirt and maroon jeans.
"Soon he'll be telling us him and his boyfriend are expecting a bundle of joy." Beidou added with a chuckle. "You know, since we have until tomorrow evening free we could..."
"Take the day off?"
An excited nod was her response.
"My love you know I don't like calling in sick, it just adds more work for me to do when I go to work the next day." Ningguang reminded, earning a sigh from her spouse.
"Fine, but let me treat you tonight. We'll go out like how we used to back in school." The brunette's confidence earned her a giggle and a nod, solidifying their plans.
Once the pair were back in the kitchen, they were met with two carefully placed bowls of congee with a group of xiaolongbao in round food baskets next to them.
"Kazuha you made all of this?" Beidou asked, pride evident in her voice.
Their boy hummed affirmatively before he began to pack a set of bentos.
"I already left your lunch in the fridge, ma, since I know you don't have to be running errands." He commented as he worked.
"It feels like yesterday you were pushing little stairs so you could see what we were doing on the counter." The electro user commented with a smile at the memory.
