"You have to be out of your mind!"

"Why, because I want to marry you?" Kazuha asked his boyfriend, the two in the countryside of Sumeru on a walk.

"Kazuha..."

"Yes, Kuni?"

The scholar sighed, melting at the tenderness his partner answered him with.

"Since you're still part of a clan, I'm guessing you'd want to go all in with tradition."

"I could, but I could also do what you're comfortable with."

Wanderer looked at his companion, knowing it would be difficult to get him to drop the topic of marriage all together.

It wasn't as if he didn't want to get married, especially to Kazuha. What had him reserved to the idea was the fact that the Kaedehara Clan would need to seek blessing from his mother as it would be viewed as a marriage of diplomacy.

Sure he was currently studying in Sumeru, but at the end of the day he was Kuniharu, the Son of Raiden Ei, Ruler of Inazuma. He would have to go through either his sister or face the infamous kitsune's wrath if he tried to go directly to his mother.

Of course, Kazuha was completely unaware of this as Wanderer never thought he'd have to share the detail.

He gained the alias of Wanderer after leaving the comfortable life promised to him by birth to pursue an education. Or, using the words of his mother's wife, "he's wandered away from home, upset that he was born fortunate."

He hadn't spoken to his mother since he left, and he didn't want to do so just for a marriage.

"I'd love to marry you, honestly! It's just...I don't want to see my mother, her wife or my sister again any time soon." He shook his head lightly, mind playing the memory of the day he left.

"You are the eldest child of the Raiden family, you have no room to choose what you do at this point in your life!" Yae raised her voice, her violet eyes the only gateway to her anger at the boy in front of her.

Closer to the door stood his mother and sister, the two almost identical, neither of them taking their eyes off him in case he tried to dart for the exit.

He felt trapped; he felt like an empty vessel with no purpose and right before his eyes the hope he clung to for that purpose was ripped away.

"Kuni!" Kazuha's shout brought him back to the present, just in time to stop him from walking face first into a thick tree branch.

He considered himself lucky to have a partner like Kazuha, otherwise he'd no doubt add to the cracks prominently displayed across his face.

"I really would like to officially have you under the protection of my clan..."

"Plus, they'd get off your ass about getting a wife." The student half jokingly replied, earning a chuckle from the sword user.

They walked in silence for a bit more, not sure what to talk about next. Eventually, they made their way back into the city.

"Kuniharu!" Nahida beamed once the two entered her sanctuary. "A letter came in, it's for you."

The man in question sighed as he saw the familiar seal of his family binding the envelope shut. However, he was shocked to see the rather formal handwriting of Yae Miko.

He drew in a shaky breath as he opened it, dreading what could possibly be written.

'Dear Kuniharu,

I know we haven't spoken in some time, and I know what I last said to you was hurtful. I deeply regret those things.
