My head turned towards the honking but my reaction time was too slow as a car quickly turned colliding with the side of my body. My head hit the dashboard as I winced in pain my vision going blurry as my face fell towards the cool asphalt road below me.
"Oh my god are you okay?!"
"Ma'am?"
"Ma'am!"
I jolted awake as my eyes turned towards the doctor who stood above me holding a small flashlight.
"Ma'am, can you hear me?" She held my eyes open checking my pupils as the bright white light gave me déjà vu from earlier.
"What happened?" I croaked out still not exactly sure where I was or what had happened.
I watched her step away checking my charts. "Blake is it?" I nodded my head. "Gosh you gave everyone quite the scare, do you remember what happened?"
"Um not exactly, everything happened really quickly."
She nodded her head. "I wasn't there to witness it but others were saying someone ran a red and collided into you with their car. Good news you only have a mild concussion which should heal up in a week or two, we gave you some stitches for the cut above your eyebrow." I touched my forehead wincing at the stinging sensation of the cut I hadn't realized was there. "We've already gave you a head CT and there's no internal bleeding so if you could just give us your emergency contact you can be on your way."
"Oh I live alone." I pushed myself up so I was in a seated position my head pounding a little by the movement.
"We'll you technically can't leave unless you have someone to sign off on your chart so is there anyone we can call, a family member, friend even?"
I stared at her knowing for a fact there was nobody who was even alive to come and get me.
Oh wait. A light bulb went off in my head and I hoped she was done her meeting by now.
"Do you by any chance have my phone?" The woman nodded her head handing me the partially cracked screen which thankfully still worked. I typed away doing my own quick research before giving the doctor a number to call.
I was just really hoping this wouldn't backfire on me.

"Oh my god are you okay?" A concerned blonde rushed into my room inspecting my face as she took a hold of my chin examining me."I'm fine." I pushed her hand away sitting up. "Let's just grab my things and we can get out of here."
"Blake you were hit by a car are you sure it's safe for you to just up and leave." She crossed her arms. "I can't believe some asshole hit you." I didn't know what to say so I just shrugged.
"That's all you have to say?" She looked at me concerned.
"Okay look I get that your worried but I didn't call you here to parent me I called you here cause your the only person I know who would come and get me. Now if you don't mind I'd like to change out of this hospital gown and go home to my cozy apartment where I don't have to worry about getting poked and prodded at by anymore doctors."
She sighed nodding her head. "Alright fine ill go and grab your belongings and we can leave."
"Thank you." I leaned back relieved that she would take me home finally.
Can you tell I don't like hospitals.
"Hey" she turned back around to look at me. "How did you even get my number?" My face tinged pink as I told her I called the apartments front desk and begged them to give me her number, let's just say I'm one of Harry's favourite residents, who promised to serve him free drinks every-time he came to the bar I worked at.
I changed back into my old clothes which partially smelled like car exhaust and burning tires as Evelyn led me out and towards her car. Now thinking about it this was the first time I actually ever saw her car or her even driving at all. She drove a black Lexus which didn't surprise me because I knew she had quite a bit of money to her name, the interior was squeaky clean and the seats still smelled like fresh leather. "Is this car new?" She nodded her head telling me Charlotte took the old car so she had to get a new one. "We always just shared one since she was always flying to new destinations and didn't really have a use for her own." That makes sense I guess.
She helped me into my side of the car before shutting the door, her gesture amused me knowing she was taking this whole injury way too seriously.
"Thanks again for getting me." I rested my head against the window closing my eyes knowing this concussion was gonna be a pain in my butt the next couple of weeks.
"Course I'd always come get you." She turned onto the main road and I couldn't help but feel warm by her comment. "How's your head?" She asks me again for like the millionth time that day.
"Like I said the first five times, I'm fine it just feels like a really bad migraine."
"You should go to sleep once we get back."
"Maybe, first I wanna shower I smell like the inside of a car dealership." She laughs nodding her head in agreement.
"I think you should take a few days off of classes and rest up, I can bring you the notes and help you stay caught up if you want." She offered as I turned to look at her, her cheeks burning a light shade of red.
"Sure, thanks." I gave her a small smile as we pulled up to our complex and parked.
We walked in and headed for the elevators as I asked her how the divorce meeting went. "I hope I didn't interrupt your meeting earlier."
"No it's fine we got everything finished and out of the way before I even got your call."
"Oh good." There was an odd silence in the air considering we have yet to discuss anything between us.
"Look I want to talk about this" I motioned towards the both of us "I just need to rest up a bit first, I'm exhausted." The doors opened to our floor.
"It's okay Blake really, I'll wait." I glanced up meeting her eyes wondering if there was more to that sentence.
"That really is a nasty cut you got on your head." Her fingertips gently touch my forehead as she cringes knowing I'm probably in pain.
"It looks worse than it feels, promise."
"Im glad your okay." She pulled her hand away looking at me like there was more she wanted to say.
"Evelyn?" She gave me a soft look but her eyes looked sad.
"Can I give you a hug?" She asked and I almost found it funny how she felt the need to ask first.
"Mhm." I nodded my head as I felt her arms reach around me pulling me to her chest. She was wearing heels so my head sat just below her chin fitting perfectly, my arms instinctively wrapping around her torso.
"Please don't ever let something like that happen to you again." She squeezed me a little tighter like she was scared I would leave.
"I'm sorry for scaring you." I spoke into her chest as her warm vanilla scent invaded my head, it felt nice finally being able to touch her again, like something in me finally felt whole after feeling empty for such a long time.
"Okay I'll let you go get some rest." She quickly kissed the top of my head before turning away and wiping a stray tear as she walked down the hall. Although the gesture was quick my whole body felt on fire by the sensation of it. I watched her shut her door as I walked in doing the same.
Although I had just been hit by a car and was almost complete road kill, I couldn't help but smile knowing a part of Evelyn Claire was still mine even if she had yet to admit it.
It was later that night by the time we got home so I quickly showered and then crawled into bed my body feeling exhausted from the events of today.
