I opened my eyes, feeling completely disoriented.

WHAT THE F-

The first thing I saw was some horrifying demonic figure right in front of me.
And it was real!

I was pinching myself in a desperate and sad attempt to wake myself up and I kept pinching myself. But no matter how often I repeated it, I still saw a real actual demon in front of me.

Am I just... hallucinating? Have I turned mad? Is this sleep... paralysis? Am I on some insane psychadelic drugs?

The demon in front of me started cackling and he spoke: "Hahaha I'm indeedy real. I take it you've died recently and I'm the first demon you've come across. Very wise decision of you, my dear. Because I'm the most important down here."

The demon's voice was filled with radio static like a radio host from like the 1920s or so.
His wide grin was really... unnerving.

WAIT A SECOND... HE JUST SAID-
HOLD ON- I'M FREAKING DEAD?

In a shaking voice, I've stuttered: "I... I am... dead?"
His left eye tweaked: "Indeedy! Isn't it lovely here?"

I stuttered: "I don't... remember... dying."
He shruged: "Don't worry, my dear. You will... soon enough remember the moments of your death. Intensively."
Wow. Great. Absolutely great.

I then gave my first aquantaince of Hell a curious look: "Are all demons here as polite as you?"
His smile grew wider: "I'm afraid not. They're sinners, dear. Most of them are really terrible folks."
Well.... isn't that relieving to hear...
I gotta stop with my sarcastic thoughts. I'm in freaking Hell.

I kept being curious about him: "So what's your name, anyway? And what... is life in Hell like?"

His smile kept getting wider: "Oh - where were my manners? I almost forgot to introduce myself... My name is Alastor."

He pauses and then continues:
"While the living think we're getting tortured, we actually have some freedom. More or less, I suppose. Actually, in most cases you have a lot of freedom to do whatever you wish. Unless you sold your soul to another demon. Because in that case, you obviously have to do whatever the sinner who owns you, asks you to do."

Being kind of relieved while also kinda concerned, I ask him: "Why would anyone sell their souls?"
His voice fills with more static: "Usually, it's not really their choice anymore when they happen to end up in certain dire situations. What is your name anyway?"
I reply: "Y/n."

Alastor was about to get on with walking somewhere he needed to go: "It was lovely making your acquaintance, y/n. But I have to run some errands now. So if you would excuse me-."

Louder than intended, I scaredly shrieked: "Wait! Where are you going? Where... where can I even stay? ... I don't know anyone here?"

Alastor's smile grew even wider.
Oh my fucking god... How can his smile keep getting wider and wider?!
Sure, Alastor seems super nice and all but oh my god his appearance is the stuff nightmares are made of.

Alastor chuckled silently: "I might just know... the right place for you... The Hazbin Hotel."
I gave him a confused look.

Alastor smirks: "I see I have to elaborate... So Lucifer's daugther is running a hotel for sinners who want to give redemption a try. You may stay there for free and there is still quite a good amount of vacancies as long as you actually are willing to give redemption a shot. Everyone is quite friendly there. Oh really, they are rather an enjoyable collective to be around! If you are interested, I can walk you to the hotel right now. Charlie would be very happy about another guest!"

I was very confused and startled and also... scared. But I wanted to take this offer because I had no idea where else to go. Besides, I could stay there for free and make a few acquaintances!

I locked eyes with him: "I'm interested indeed."

His smile got kind of wicked? I hope the other demons don't look as terrifying as Alastor.
Alastor and me both started walking in the same direction then.

I asked: "What is Lucifer's daughter like?"
Alastor hummed: "She will quite surprise you. She is not evil like the living may think. She might be the friendliest being in Hell. She always believes in the good of everyone. Even in the good of sinners. Despite sinners being a lost cause in my opinion."
I gave him a smile: "I look forward to meeting her then."

Suddenly, there were intense flashes in my mind. NO! NOT AGAIN!
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO
The memory was being so intensive. It just felt as if I was reliving the moment of my death. I broke down, tears coming out of my eyes. I couldn't help it. The memories were being too intense and I couldn't bear the way the memories made me feel now.

I was crying my eyes out while sitting on the ground still seeing the moments of my death and also the ones that had led up to it.
Suddenly, I heard a voice in the background pulling me back to reality.
The voice said: "Smile, my dear. You're never fully dressed without one."

I gave him Alastor an angry look once I was aware of my reality again: "How exactly am I supposed to smile... about my painful death?"

Alastor's smile grew less inhumane: "A smile doesn't necessarily say what's going on underneath. A smile is a valuable tool, my dear. It inspires your friends, keeps your enemies guessing and it ensures that no matter what, you'll always be the one in control."

He pauses, then continues: "It's a very valuable tool. Especially in Hell."

I appreciated his weird advice I guess. But right now, I just couldn't force a smile. I need a hug. Reliving your death in such an intense way... leaves one kind of scarred. Me at least. Probably mr inhumane smile had no problems when he first spawned in Hell and relived his death again. I bet that psycho was even laughing out of fun while reliving it. I shuddered.

I stuttered with a very shaky voice: "Thank you for the advice, Alastor."

Then I slowly stood up again and we continued walking to the hotel.
Even tho my legs were still shaking a bit while walking.

He said silently: "Since you're being in Hell now, you should make sure to toughen up, doll."

I looked at him annoyedly: "Weren't you scared or confused or nervous on your very first day in Hell too?"
He just giggled slighty: "Other sinners certainly. But not me. Life in Hell is quite made for me."

In front of us, I could see a huge building getting closer and closer each step we took. The top of the building had big letters on it that said "Hazbin Hotel".

Alastor turned to face me, saying: "I suppose you can walk the remaining part of the way just fine. I have to leave you alone now. I have to run my errands. I wish you good luck at settling in, doll."

I replied: "Thank you for everything, Alastor. I hope your errands will go well and I hope to see you again soon!"

I turned away from Alastor and walked to the hotel on my own.

I turned around to give him a last glance. He still smiled at me like a creepy madman. But his eye gave me a bit of a friendly look. He then quickly dispersed into shadow and then was gone.

Do... sinners have powers in Hell? Can everyone turn into a shadow? I still have so many question about how the heck Hell works. I can't wait to meet the people in the hotel to make some more acquaintances and to get a better understanding of Hell.

Well... at least my first attempt at acquainting a demon was kind of successful I guess? I mean... he's hard to read. Hmmm. Was I actually successful? I mean... uhm... he kinda helped me out and his eyes gave me a bit of a friendly look so I guess he at least doesn't hate me?

Now it's time to meet the others in the hotel. I was nervous as I was standing right in front of the door step.
