Rubee had been talking about her birthday coming up next week non-stop to her "friends", expressing how excited she was for the special day. Her mother had been taking note of the activities she discussed "hypothetically" wanting to have at a party, so she decided on surprising her daughter with it.
The only problem was that her little trio friend group were no good for her and everyone around her could see it except her. They only hung out with her because they felt bad but whenever they went out together, they'd always get Rubee to pay for something they wanted.
Nonetheless, her mother didn't want to upset her daughter by telling her how awful her friends truly were, except one friend in particular. Chase. Chase's love always seemed genuine and how much he paid attention to Rubee's interests was so cute.
Her mother would rather her be around Chase rather than the mean girls she called her friends. Currently, Rubee was talking to one of the girls, Georgia, who was occupied in her locker mirror while she half-listened to Rubee.
"Anyway, I hope Chase doesn't get busy that day, I definitely want to see his face but I doubt he'd even want to get in the pool to begin with." Rubee sighed. Georgia snapped her head over to her.
"Chase as in Chase Mitchell is coming?" Georgia perked up. "..Yeah?" Rubee nodded slowly, looking at her confused as to why she was so excited all of a sudden. "Mmm, I'll keep that in mind, the 17th you said, right?" Georgia asked.
"Yep, just like every year you've been around to celebrate with me." Rubee said half-heartedly. Rubee was then startled by Georgia abruptly slamming her locker door shut.
"Welp, I gotta get to class early, I'll see you at lunch, friend! Bye!" Georgia bubbly waved at her before going on her way.
"Bye." Rubee said, only loud enough for Rubee herself to hear. Almost as if it was on queue, she felt a tap on her shoulder. Looking over, Rubee's face immediately lit up when seeing the face of her beloved best friend.
"Cheeee! I thought you said you weren't coming today." Rubee spoke as she hugged the skinny boy like her life depended on it. "I wasn't but I wanted to see you cause I was tired of doing shit alone and going to the studio 24/7." He shrugged as she let go of him.
"Great! So that means you can come to my party this Saturday?" She grinned. His face softened "Oh.. I thought you told me Friday, I'm busy Saturday." Rubee's blood ran cold.
"Chase? I told you Saturday, I texted you the date and everything." Rubee's tone change shattered Chase's heart. "I musta read it wrong.. damn, my bad, Rue." He awkwardly scratched the back of his neck.
"It's fine I guess, I'll see you later though.. bye, Chase." Chase watched as the saddened girl walked away from him and to her homeroom class. He knew it was wrong, but this was his way of surprising her on her birthday.
Chase wasn't busy on Saturday, in fact, he didn't have a goddamn thing to do other than attend his best friend's birthday party. Her mother originally texted him with the idea to prank her first in whichever approach he could come up with, so he chose to do it this way.
Though he hated seeing her so upset, he knew he wasn't going to regret his plan when he saw Rubee on that Saturday night and see how excited she'll be when she sees him.

Rubee's birthday was on the 14th, though they were having the party on the weekend because what sense would it make to have a party in the middle of the week?
Anyway Today was the day of the party and the friend group were all in Rubee's bedroom getting ready for the pool party while Rubee's family was finishing setting up the party.
