Chapter Thirty Three

Where the heck was I?

I woke up in an unfamiliar room. My head throbbed when I sat up. I saw myself in a mirror. There was cloth wrapped around my head and dried blood on one side.

I blinked many times while trying to remember what happened. Everything in my memory was a blur. James and Peterson, gunshots, tigers... and...

"Yuxuan!" I gasped and pushed myself off the bed. That's right.

Yuxuan, Sheng, and Jack were all left together. I prayed that nothing happened! Yuxuan was still very hostile toward him!

How did I even end up here? Where were they?

I waddled on my feet toward the door, and the moment I opened it, I saw Lester standing there with a tray of tea and pieces of bread. His eyes were wide as if he was shocked to see me.

"Mr. Brinly!" I gasped.

"Alexandrea, you're awake!"

"Where's Yuxuan?!"

"Calm down first, you're still injured..."

"Where is Jack!?"

"I'm over here." Jack coughed, standing awkwardly across the hall. He was dressed properly. It looked as if the events before didn't unfold!

"What did you do to Yuxuan!? I swear! If you sold him, I won't forgive you! I'll—"

"Alexandrea, please let us explain... don't stress yourself." Lester grabbed me by my hands. "Dear lord, you're trembling."

"Yuxuan is safe..." Jack rolled his eyes. "All of them are..."

"What?"

"Your Doctor friend... he went with them a while ago..."

"Where did they go?"

"Back to where they came from."

"And you let them go?"

"Don't get me wrong," Jack narrowed his eyes at me. "I only let him off after he and that other savage saved us...I still don't like him, but it didn't feel right taking him into custody after all that."

"Just admit that you're a foolish dastard with no defense." Lester snorted. "He wouldn't dare attack Yuxuan with the tigers around. The bloody fool lost his gun in the forest."

I relaxed against the door frame.

Yuxuan was safe. That meant after I passed out, they probably brought me here to rest.

"Wait... did you say that Hansel went with them to go back?"

"Aye."

"How long ago was that?"

Lester and Jack looked at each other for a moment. "A few hours, I suppose?"

My heart sank. Hansel took them back to their tribe, but Yuxuan didn't even bother to say goodbye! I didn't even have the chance to tell him...

I nudged Lester aside and rushed out of the front door. Looking at the way of the sun, it was probably afternoon. Hansel would've been long gone by now.

"Alexandrea..." A thick German accent called me and I turned on my heel.

"Hansel!" I grinned. "Oh! Thank heavens!"

"Why are you up and about?"

"Hansel! Did you take Yuxuan back already?"

"I did." Hansel sighed. "I just came by to pick up a few things."
