Chapter 3: Fiery Chaos

RING RING RING

Knuckles's phone rang again. This time, he raised an eyebrow the moment he saw the screen.

" ... Tails?"

He answered the phone and immediately heard his friend shout.

"KNUCKLES WE ARE IN DANGER!!! Sonic found the chao, but Eggman did a horrible experiment on it and now it's some type of a fiery chaos! We need help as soon as possible!"

"Oh, Tails I—" he stuttered as he saw his precious chao playing in front of him. "Tails, I would go help, but I have other things to do, but ... uhh"

He thought and thought for solutions until he remembered about Rouge.

"Well, actually, I may be able to go, but I have to call someone first!"

Tails replied, "Okay, as long as you can make it, please."

Knuckles ended the call and dialed Rouge. 

Rouge was on her phone, scrolling through social media and when she saw Knuckles's name appear on her screen, she answered joyously.

"Hi knuckles!!! Why such an early call this time?"

"Rouge," he sighed, "I have a request for you, but PLEASE just DON'T steal the master emerald again! I am watching you and I have your phone number."

"Phone number? HAHA, I can just block you, you know?" she joked. "But, seriously, you really think I'm just talking to you just to get your precious emerald?"

"Rouge...I'm just asking because it's urgent. Basically Sonic needs my help. He's running away from a chao which is apparently made out of fire now."

"Hey! If you trust me enough for this request, then consider it done, red boy! I'll be on my way. Oh! and I'll make sure all your chao are well fed and loved, hehe!"

"I can't thank you enough."

The phone call ended and Rouge squealed. She could not believe he had requested her to guard the master emerald. As long as I'm near it, I'm happy! she thought, but then she shook her head. Rouge, Focus! If I do everything perfectly, he'll trust me more ... and then we'll go on dates together! Suddenly her heart skipped a beat. 

It was only 5 minutes before Shadow and Rouge could finally leave work, so by the time Rouge was planning her visit with the master emerald, both friends had already clocked out together. 

Rouge smiled so excitingly, in which Shadow had noticed prior to the clock out.

"Shadow, you won't believe it! I'm going to be GUARDING the MASTER EMERALD! Isn't that insane? Opposite day is happening today!"

He widened his eyes. "Are you saying Knuckles allowed you to do that? That is surprising."

"Oh, and wanna know why? It's because that blue blur is running around in mystic ruins, escaping from the chao which is now a fiery chaos! Flames ALL over its body!"

Upon hearing these news, Shadow laughed right after saying, "You got to be kidding me!"

However, Rouge realized that his laugh and his firm smile looked quite different than other times. He looked ... much more brighter.

She raised an eyebrow. "Shadow, is anything going on, lately? You seem happier."

"Happier? Me? As if."

She smirked. "Oh, don't give me that answer! I know you are hiding something from me. Oh, perhaps, you found someone special? Is it because of Amy Rose?"
