Right after 4 hours, Shadow caught Sonic's eyes slowly opening.

Sonic had just woken up from a hazy dream. He could only remember parts of it, but surely, Shadow was present in it. Amy was there, too.

He had literally forgotten his whereabouts and his mission until he saw Shadow's red irises. His heart skipped a beat, but the current night sky obscured his sincere feelings.

"Oh, it's you Shadow."

"Are you feeling better now?" He said rather confidently.

Sonic lowered a brow. "Wait a moment. You haven't slept at all?"

"I told you I don't need to." But he sighed afterward. "I tried to, but I never fell asleep."

"You must be worried about something."

"Hm?"

"Whenever I can't sleep, it's because I'm worried for someone or something. It happens sometimes."

In a way, it felt as if Sonic was reading his mind.

However, Sonic remembered about yesterday and smirked.

"Say, I heard you were right outside Tails' place when I was healing from my wounds!"

Shadow gave him a dirty look. "Hmph!"

"Mind to explain that whole ordeal?"

"I don't need to explain anything."

"Oh, yeah? What about you and Amy Rose?" his voice resonated spitefully. "You see, if I connect the dots together, it looks like you and Amy are hanging out together, am I right?"

Shadow stood up from the ground. "Yeah, and what are you going to do about it?"

This made Sonic pause for a moment. He had not quite thought about that.

"Uh...." He took awhile to think... "D—does that mean that you two..."

But Shadow got angry. "No, Sonic! I am NOT dating your girlfriend!"

"Oh, then, wait, so you two are just friends? Close friends or something?"

He sighed, "I guess you finally figured that out after a whole year."

"Wait, WHAT!"

Shadow scowled before moving ahead without him. Sonic immediately got up and rushed for him as well.

"Hey, wait!"

For some reason, letting him know about his friendship with Amy was like lifting weight off his shoulders. So, Shadow suddenly smirked and felt the adrenaline as he dashed even faster, inviting Sonic into a race. The two hedgehogs sped through the forest, and besides the cocky race, Shadow was inspecting everything around him. He had a feeling the mountains up ahead had something to do with Eggman's base. Meanwhile, Sonic slowly caught up to his opponent, smiling in the process.

"You can run all you want, but you can't hide from ME!"

Shadow responded right beside him. "Oh, yeah? I can prove you wrong."

He lifted up his hand which held the green chaos emerald. Sonic frowned and rolled his eyes as his opponent set off a bright flash.

Sonic sighed. "I shouldn't have said that."

However, he still kept running, looking for Eggman's secret base. It was pretty dark, so Sonic had to be cautious.

Where could he be, that darn faker?

Sonic searched around for him, but then he found a dark cave ahead. He smiled and entered it without hesitation.

"I know where you are now! Come out or else I'll make you regret it!" he shouted as he stopped inside. He waited a few seconds more before shouting again.
