Lapis POV:
I walked back into the house, closing the door behind me. I leaned against the door, holding my hand over my mouth, and a soft smile appeared from underneath. I then went into a giggle fit and made ballerina-like spins around the house before hitting my toe against my table. "DARN! SHIT!" I said, immediately picking my leg up and rubbing my toe. I sighed. "You know how to ruin a good mood, huh?" I said, putting my foot down and giving an intimidating stare towards the table. I decided to back off and go sit on the couch. It was 11:36 a.m. Naturally, I needed to be at work, but my head still felt a tad uneasy from yesterday. I'm sure Aquamarine won't mind, right? Who am I kidding, she'll probably nag about it next time I see her.
It was so nice to know Peridot would really care enough to stay with me the whole night. It still didn't answer a question I've been asking myself for a while. Why does she care for me? I couldn't answer that right now. I decided to look at my messages. A few had popped up, Aquamarine, my manager, and my mother. I decided to see how she's doing. It seems like she replied to my previous message about going out later that night, and apologizing if I didn't get to talk that night.
Mother: Why? Where were you off to? You better not be sneaking any boys around, and you better still have your virginity!
My mouth hung open in shock; my mother never failed to surprise me in the weirdest ways. I guess her honesty was my surprise today.
You: Mom?! What the heck? No, I would never do that.
I said with a scoff. I wanted to leave my phone on the table to go and fill up a cup of coffee for myself before seeing another message pop up on my phone.
Mother: Okay, good, but listen, we need to talk about something...
My face turned into a slightly concerned expression before sitting on the couch again, my attention fully turned towards the phone.
You: Yeah? What's up, mom?
Mother: Your father and I are... getting a divorce.
My eyes shot wide open, tears started building up in the corner of my eyes. I know I'm old enough to handle this type of information, but one can't help but wonder why, why now. I wiped my tears daring to fall away.
You: What? Why? What's going on?
Mother: Your father and I have been struggling over the past years. Every time you come and visit us from out of town, we always try to put on a good smile. But you never get to see what happens when you're not here. We have been fighting every day, ever since you left this household. I cannot take it anymore.
I placed my hand over my mouth as I bit the inside of my mouth, my eyes filling with sorrow. This isn't any new news to me. My parents have always been fighting ever since I was born. But I guess I have never thought of how bad it might get. You always see your parents as the perfect model in life, but sadly, they are still just people with lives.
You: This is shocking. I'm so sorry. I'll be here for support if you need anything, mom.
I said simply before switching my putting my phone down. I couldn't help but let out a few tears and sniffle every now and then, holding the couch pillow in my arms. No kid would want to hear that their parents don't love one another anymore, doesn't matter which age they are. I decided to text Peridot to see if she was up for a conversation. But all I wanted to know was if she was safely at her house. It might help me to think about something else other than my parents right now.
You: Hey Peridot, just wanted to know if you made it to your house?
I said plainly, staring at my phone for a while, seeing if Peridot might come online anytime soon. But no reply was to be seen. Soon, I just gave up and placed my phone on the table. Maybe it's for the best that I needed to be on my own for a while. I sighed, hugging the pillow again, burying my face in it as I sobbed softly. I was sulking in my own time when I heard a knock on the door. I gave a side-eye towards the door. I went to answer the door. I opened the door, only for my expression to turn overjoyed instantly. "Steven!"
