Nagflat line na si Dad habang nasa byahe kami papuntang ospital pero narevive din siya ng paramedic na kasama namin sa loob ng ambulance. Sapat na iyon para matigil kami ni Mommy sa pag-iyak.

Mabilis na sumalubong ang mga nurse at doktor ng dumating kami sa ospital.

"Please save my husband. Please... N-Nagmamakaawa kami sa inyo." Kulang na lang ay lumuhod si Mommy sa harapan nila para lang masiguro na maililigtas nila si Daddy.

"Gagawin namin ang lahat, Ma'am." The doctor sounded reassuring before they hurriedly wheeled Dad to the operating room.

Nayakap ko si Mommy ng mahigpit. We both can't afford to lose him. Even if he's unreasonable sometimes, we both know that he just wants the best for us and that we're always safe.

Lord, please save my father. Don't let him die.

"Mrs. Martin..." naghiwalay kami ni Mommy ng marinig ang isa sa mga pulis na sumunod sa amin.

"... Can we talk to you to get a stateme---"

"Sir... Hinding hindi ako magbibigay ng statement habang nasa bingit ng kamatayan ang asawa ko. Napakapalpak ng pagrescue niyo sigurado ba kayong mga pulis kayo?... Kailangan ba munang mamatay kaming lahat bago kayo magmadaling magrescue?! Wala kaming maaasahan sa inyo kaya umalis na kayo bago pa ako hindi makapagpigil." May mga bahid pa rin ng dugo si Mommy pero namumula siya sa galit habang nagsasalita sa mga pulis.

I'm sure they called for help the moment she knew that something's wrong. And I too called the reception to tip them off and help us. But the rescue took longer. They all took longer to arrive. We almost do all the work that they've supposedly done.

Napilitang umalis ang mga pulis ng talikuran sila ni Mommy.

"Mom... Are you sure you're okay? Wala ka talagang sugat?" I have to double check because she's very good at hiding even if everything is already not okay.

She nodded. "I'm okay. And thank you for keeping yourself safe. I'm sorry we were not there. I wasn't the---" her voice breaks when she pulls me for another tight hug.

"Mom, I killed the intruder and I turned out fine. So it's okay. I know you're trying your best to keep the both of you alive at that moment. I'm just glad that you're here with me. And I know Dad will also fight for his life because we're here... We're waiting for him."

Everything that's happening right now is breaking us but we have to stay strong for each other.

Mom pulled away and gave me a weak smile. "Thank you, Kaye. I'll make sure that this will be over very soon."

"I'll be with you in whatever you're going to do... I'll ask for some clean towel from the nurse station and let's take off those blood stains from your face. Stay here." She really looked tired so I let her sit on one of the steel chairs outside of the emergency room. One of the nurses quickly gave me a damp cloth to bring it to my mother.

"I'll call your Lolo Ninong so that he can pick you up here and stay with him for the meantime while I'm with your Dad."

"I want to stay here with you. Ayoko ng maulit yung nangyari kay Lolo. Please, Mom. You have to understand me. I don't want to leave you and Dad here."

"Kaesley, I have to make you safe while I'm trying to figure out how we are all blind sided with these assassination attempts. So for the meantime, go with your Lolo Ninong and he will keep you safe. I'll definitely go with you once your Dad gets stable."

"Let me stay here until they're done with the operation. And make sure that you'll communicate with me while you're staying with Dad." I said. Because I just don't want to be put in a place and all I can do is overthink all the possible scenarios that can happen.
