vhope....kinda

hoseok was hesitant. he wasn't the type to go straight for the win. he didn't even feel like he would win. the side of himself he always kept secret behind his bright, big smile. hoseok felt as if - since he has  felt true pain, he doesn't want anyone else to experience what he had gone through.

it pains him. the person he loves the most is so close to him - yet so far away. the person he loves has bright, glittering eyes, a smile that could stop global warming, and the most adorable giggle hoseok has ever heard in his life. the boy's smile is intoxicating.

it's afternoon now and hoseok's going home after a tiring day at dance class. he's carrying groceries in his hand, lugging them up the curb and sighing as he stops for a break. the bag's are heavy, and his fingers feel as if they're going to fall off.

he lazily unlocks his front door, and is greeted with loud screaming. he sees jimin on his couch eating pizza, seokjin scolding him to stop and jungkook with namjoon playing on his game station. yoongi is no where to be found, but taehyung's standing in front of him with the biggest smile on his face.

taehyung's got a cute little birthday hat on, and he's holding a cake that says: "happy birthday hoseokie hyung". hoseok's lips quickly curl into a bright, huge smile.

"happy birthday!!" all seven of them shout in unison. hoseok is kind of taken a back, because before he can even thank them, taehyung's one-arm hugging him so tightly hoseok feels is body grow hot. he's got the cake in his over arm and taehyung digs his finger's into hoseok's back, it hurts, but hoseok doesn't mind.

"took you forever to get here." jimin smirks, taking the cake away from taehyung, before it splats onto the ground and they have to trust seokjin to make a new one. hoseok smiles.

"thank you so much guys," hoseok can feel his eyes curl at the ends because he's just so happy. he feels like his face is gonna fall off.

taehyung excitedly grabs hoseok's groceries and places them in the kitchen, then runs back to then grab hoseok's hand and drag him to his dining table. jimin gently places the cake down and puts in a small candle. taehyung's hand his still gripping hoseok's hand tightly, but when hoseok flinches as he realizes yoongi's beside him, taehyung lets go.

"where were you?" hoseok asks yoongi. yoongi shrugs tiredly, not replying. hoseok rolls his eyes, but ignores yoongi to happily blow the candle on the pretty cake.

they then sing a happy birthday to hoseok so loudly the neighbor's could probably hear. hoseok's grinning his ears off, and taehyung's right there to grin with him. jungkook jumps in and pulls out his phone, taking a picture of hoseok taken off guard. just at that moment, namjoon swipes some icing off the cake and wipes it onto hoseok's face.

jungkook soon follows along, and giggles when he sees hoseok put on his bitch face. "you're not a good example." hoseok grunts at namjoon, who simply smirks evilly back at him.

"yah, stop doing that," seokjin scolds namjoon and jungkook, and glares as he holds the cutting knife. namjoon instantly gives a smug look and seokjin sticks his tongue out. "you're stupid." seokjin mumbles under his breath, and namjoon doesn't hear it.

--

by the time the cake's inhaled by all seven of the boys, hoseok's sprawled out on the floor out of breath. he's been having a dance contest with jimin and jimin just won't give up.

"o-one more time!" jimin breathes. he's still trying to catch his breath, and his brows are furrowed deeply creating a crease in between.

"no," hoseok rasps, turning over and making himself comfortable on the cold, wooden floor. he can hear jimin pout and mumble, "you suck hyung." hoseok clicks his tongue as he hears jimin say that. hoseok then hears the sound of feet stomping his way.

"jimin, i already told you-" he growls, but stops after he realizes it's taehyung's giggling. taehyung crouches down to meet hoseok's eye level, and smiles.

"here," he says, handing a cold bottle of water to hoseok. hoseok mouths a 'thank you' before sitting up to gulp down the water. taehyung's got an angelic smile on his face and hoseok can just feel butterflies in his stomach. hoseok yelps when he feels taehyung's warm hand on his.

"hey, you're pretty cold right now." taehyung points out, rubbing hoseok's hand lovingly. hoseok hopes taehyung can't feel his hands shaking because of how warm he is.

"i..." hoseok mumbles, looking taehyung right in the eyes.

taehyung's head cocks up as he hears hoseok say something. his brow raises as he patiently waits for hoseok to say something, but he doesn't. they stare at each other for a few minutes before taehyung finally speaks up, breaking the silence. taehyung doesn't understand why hoseok is so hesitant around him.

"hoseok hyung?"

hoseok quickly snaps back into reality. he's really nervous right now, should he confess - or not? hoseok fears that taehyung will not accept him, and he doesn't want that. hoseok doesn't want to break their friendship, because everything's going well. maybe he'd be content if everything stayed like this forever.

"you've got icing on your cheek," hoseok scoffs, and taehyung smiles again, palming his face to find the retched icing that damned his skin.

hoseok smiles at taehyung, with a hint of pain behind it. he feels this stinging in his heart and as if his stomach just crumpled together in a small ball and disappeared forever. he's hurting. but hoseok still manages to give a bright smile to taehyung, even if hoseok will never say he loves taehyung.
