Ryoko's POV

As I stood before the mirror, straightening my new school uniform, a sense of foreboding settled over me like a heavy cloak.

"Just one year, please!" I pleaded silently, clasping my hands together in a desperate plea to whatever higher power might be listening.

"Oh, dear heavens," I murmured, barely audible over the rustle of fabric as I adjusted my collar. "Grant me a year of peace amidst the chaos of this not-so-peaceful school."

Just last week, I was living my best life in Tokyo, enjoying the hustle and bustle of the city, far away from the memories and struggles of my hometown.

And yet, here I was, inexplicably drawn back to the place I thought I had left behind.

Sighing deeply, I slung my bag over my shoulder and made my way to the room opposite mine, where my cousin Akajin resided.

As I entered, I was met with the sight of him flexing in front of the mirror, boasting about his hobbies and single status.

"I am Jin Akajima," he declared proudly, flashing a toothy grin. "And my hobbies include music, particularly playing bass in the best band in town. And hey, I'm single for a change, so come say hello!"

I couldn't help but roll my eyes at his antics, wondering why on earth I had agreed to return to this town.

But despite my frustration, there was a flicker of fondness in my heart as I looked at my younger cousin, remembering the bond we shared since childhood.

"Jin, you never change," I chuckled, shaking my head in mock exasperation. "But hey, it's good to be back, I guess." He shrugged

As we exchanged banter and caught up on old times. Little did I know, the events that awaited me at this school would change my life in ways I could never have imagined.

"Arajin, Ryoko-chan!! I made Chu Chu gyoza for breakfast!!" My aunt's voice echoed through the house, pulling us from our morning routines.

"Yes, we're coming!" I replied, already feeling the aroma of the delicious dumplings wafting up the stairs.

But Arajin wasn't as enthusiastic. "Old hag!! I told you I'm not eating Gyoza for breakfast!!" he protested, earning a swift smack on the head from me.

"Don't talk to your mother like that!" I scolded him with a stern look as he grumbled in response.

We made our way downstairs, where Aunt was already serving up plates of steaming Chu Chu gyoza. As we settled at the table, I couldn't help but smile at the sight of us gathered together for a meal.

"Mou, Ryoko, you didn't have to come live with us in this crackshack just because my dumb son asked you to..." Aunt began concerned.

I chuckled, reaching for a gyoza and dipping it into the sauce. "It's fine, Auntie. It's nice to get a breather from all that pollution in Tokyo," I reassured her, taking a bite and savoring the flavor.

After some small talk, me and Arajin finished our breakfast and made our way to the high school I had to attend for the last year before joining a college.

As I approached the gates , I couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia washing over me, and a bit excited about what the day would bring.

"Nee-san?" Arajin's voice broke through my reverie, and I snapped back to reality, tearing my gaze away from the graffiti-covered building looming before us.

"Do girls even attend this school...?" he asked concerned and I deadpanned at the sight before us. "I'm beginning to doubt it," I muttered under my breath.
