(Name) awoke bright and early, the sun had yet to rise and her neck and back were at a constant ache due to the sleep she took at her desk that night. Even though sleeping longer was something she wished for, food was something she needed to survive.
Besides, waking up early had come natural to her due to Genya's training during the days at Gyomei's estate. Though there were time where Gyomei would scare her awake with his booming steps.
'A total giant..but he's got a soft heart so' leaving her thoughts, (Name) entered the dining area and took a seat.
She wasn't surprised to see Sanemi up so early, but what did surprise her was the fact that he was cooking.
'Oh?'
"Master, I never took you for a cook." She commented as the white haired man mingled about. To and fro he'd go as he collected things deemed necessary. (Name) was honestly in slight awe as she watched the once scary looking man seem so...gentle? It was an odd sight for sure. The way he moved through the kitchen with such precision, as if he'd done it many times. He had a serene look to his face, she never knew the man was capable of looking so at peace.
Sanemi took a moment to answer his student, not wanting to possibly mess up the miso soup he'd been seasoning.
" You need food to live. Duh."
(Name) let out a small chuckle. "I know that it's just...you seem very passionate." She replied.
Sanemi didn't give a reply as he continued cooking. Breakfast was surprisingly peaceful, however that peace was quickly thrown away as they made way to the training grounds. She could practically feel the battle spirit oozing off of the man. (Name) doesn't know if she's hearing things but she could have sworn an evil chuckle left his mouth.
Sanemi jumped from the engawa and landed on the dirt. Beelining straight to the stand holding the practice swords, he pulled out only one and made way to the waiting girl.
(Name) had already made it in her previous spot from their spar yesterday, expecting to spar again once more.
But, she was surprised when he brought only one sword.
Accepting the well carved wood, (Name) listened to her teacher. "Hold the hilt like you normally would."
Doing as told, (Name) placed her hands the way Genya had taught her. Sanemi let out a hum, "Now, swing."
(Name) nodded and pulled her arms up, raising her sword she swung down. Sanemi watched for incorrect form and movements. Coming closer, he grabbed her hands and guided them up slowly, keeping her sword in a fixed position.
"When you swing, you don't want to lose control of your sword when pulling back and delivering the blow for two reasons. One, you could harm yourself or lose your sword, and two, you could break your sword."
Sanemi slowly brought (Name)'s sword down in a slow swing, telling her to watch her hands. "Your left hand starts the swing and your right hand joins right after the mono-uchi move. The power of both hands combined comes together at the point of your katana which hits your target. You shouldn't force the stop of your katana, it should come to an end naturally. Don't straighten your arms completely when finishing a swing either, if you do that you'll have a hard time deflecting or giving more attacks."
