The cart had been eerily silent for what felt like an eternity. It came to a sudden halt to pick up two tributes from District 5, a boy named Hy and a girl named Sol. As soon as they were on board, the cart picked up speed and began hurtling down the path toward their inevitable demise. Vale was struggling to keep her sanity intact, her eyes fixed on a tiny crack in the wall. Through the gap, she could see the outside world - the thick forest, the lush green fields, and the sparkling lakes. She let her mind wander to her life back in District 4, imagining the salty breeze coming off the water and the rhythmic sound of the waves crashing against the shore. She could almost smell the fish she used to clean and gut, and hear Coral's silly jokes. But her daydream was suddenly shattered by the sound of someone sobbing, bringing her back to the grim reality of their situation. As Vale looked around, she realized that the sobs were coming from the District 7 girl, Lamina. Vale had heard her sobbing off and on throughout the entire trip.

Lamina's body shook with sobs, and tears flowed down her face like a never-ending stream. The tension in the room was rising, and even the air seemed to be thick with it. Velverseen, the District 1 tribute, sat impatiently, her eyes darting around the room. Frustrated by Lamina's constant crying, Velverseen finally lost her temper. "I can't take this anymore! Stop crying or I'm going to make you" she yelled, her voice bouncing off the walls. Lamina's cries grew louder at the outburst, and Velverseen's rage intensified. With a growl, she stood up, her eyes blazing with fury.

But before Velverseen could get to Lamina, Vale moved between the two, shielding Lamina from Velverseen's wrath. "Sit back down," Vale commanded, her voice low and dangerous. Velverseen was caught off guard by Vale's sudden intervention, but the anger in her eyes didn't diminish.

Valverseen's face twisted into a cruel smile as she sneered at Vale, taunting her with the question, "What are you going to do if I don't?" Velverseen's district partner, Facet, quickly moved to intervene, but it was too late. Vale's hand had already grabbed the collar of Velverseen's shirt, yanking her closer. Her eyes blazed with anger, making it clear that she was not going to back down easily.

The tension between the two tributes grew as they stood face to face, their breathing heavy and ragged. The area around them was silent, with the other tributes watching uncertain of what might happen next. "I won't wait for the games to end you," Vale stated intently, her voice low and dangerous.

Facet finally managed to make it to Velverseen and pulled her away from Vale, whispering something in her ear that seemed to talk some sense in her. Without another word, the District 1 tributes returned to their seats, leaving the rest of the tributes to wonder what had just transpired.

As the argument came to an end, Vale, felt relieved and sat back down. The silence that followed was almost deafening. That was when she sensed someone's stare burning into the side of her head. She slowly turned to see Lamina looking at her with an intense gaze. Vale couldn't read the emotion behind the stare.

After a few moments of silence, Lamina spoke, her voice barely above a whisper. "Why did you stand up for me?"

Vale took a moment to think before answering. She couldn't really explain why she had acted on impulse. "I... I don't know," Vale finally replied, trying to put her thoughts into words. "I just felt like I had to do something."

"I...... I can't stop. I know that I'm going to be one of the first," Lamina mutters continuing to weep softly, and Vale feels helpless. She didn't know how to comfort her. What do you say to someone who knows they're going to die? Vale couldn't lie because they all knew that only one person would win. Vale was determined to be that person, but she still wanted Lamina to feel better. There is only one thing that comes to mind.

Vale excitedly exclaimed, "I found something cool. Look at this," as she shifted her position to make room for Lamina. Lamina hesitantly agreed and moved over to where Vale was sitting. Vale pointed to a tiny crack in the wall that she had been fixated on. "The view is breathtaking. I have seen forests,  fields, and shimmering lakes through this little opening," Vale continued, her eyes lighting up.

Lamina peered out of the crack for a while, taking in the beauty of the scenery without uttering a single word. She remained silent, and her body language shifted to one of relaxation and tranquility. "It is truly stunning, thank you for showing me," Lamina finally said, breaking the silence. "You can have your spot back."

Without hesitation, Vale replied, "You can keep the spot." She couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction and joy knowing that Lamina was now at ease. Even though she had lost her favorite spot to escape reality, Vale didn't mind. Seeing Lamina at peace was more than enough to make up for it.

A/N: Hey, this chapter took me a while because I wasn't sure what I wanted to write. I changed my mind about 100 times when writing this. I have also changed the format in the past chapters as I didn't like how it looked on my phone. I hope that you are enjoying my story. I always worry that no one will like my stories. I hope you have a good night/day.
