TIME WAS A WEIRD THING,Barley had no idea how much time had passed but she assumed it was about mid-day, the sun was shining high in the sky and it was beginning to cause sunburns.
Barley and Adam sat behind a large rock, doing their best to shade them from the volcano like sun, the two sat quietly enjoying the brief quietness, the quiet allowed the siblings some time to think over some things.
Barley began to notice some more people approaching the cage they we're dressed in the same red uniform as the boy from the truck, they must be mentors like him so he was telling the truth.
"First time for everything"Barley thought.
"Barley Miller!"A male voice that Barley had never heard before called out.
Barley looked at her brother with confusion before slowly standing up, she extended her hand out for Adam to take and helped him to his feet the two slowly walked out from behind the rock trying to find out who shouted her name.
"Barley!"Her name was called again memories of The Reaping flashing in her mind Barley and Adam located the voice of as belong to a boy with brown hair and a kind smile.
Barley walked up to the bars of the cage where the boy stood Adam is still holding tightly onto her hand.
"I'm Barley, can I help you?"Barley asks with a little bit of attitude in her voice she didn't know who this stranger was so she kept her walls up.
The boy cleared his throat. "Yes...um I'm Apollo Ring and I'm your mentor"Apollo says introducing himself.
"Nice to meet you, Apollo, you wouldn't happen to know where Adam's mentor is?"Barley asked him, trying to ensure her brother was on equal ground with everyone else.
Apollo cleared his throat. "yes..I...um I'm sorry my twin sister Diana is his mentor and she just running a little bit behind but she'll be here soon"Apollo tells the two.
Barley rolls her eyes of course she's running behind it's not like Adam's life was on the line or anything.
Apollo reaches into his school book bag and brings something out wrapped in a napkin.
"I thought you might be hungry so I brought you some food, I brought some extra for your brother I know how forgetful my sister can be so I thought ahead,"Apollo tells them with a small smile on his face.
Apollo slowly reaches his hand through the bars to hand Barley the wrapped-up food, Barley takes the food carefully not wanting to drop it, it was at that moment both Barley and Adam realized how hungry they were after not eating for so long.
Barley slowly unwraps the napkin, inside are some sandwiches and some slightly broken cookie bits.
A smile appears on Barley's face. "Thank you that's very kind"Barley says being as kind as possible.
