ONCE THEY GOT BACK into the tunnels and back to their safe area most of the pack fell asleep but Barley couldn't. Every time Barley closed her eyes she could see Bobbin's dead body, she saw his soulless eyes staring back at her.
She clutches Bobbin's machete close to her body, she keeps guard as the pack sleeps being ready to protect the pack at all costs, she focuses on Adam as tiny snores exit from him, his chest rising and falling slowly.
The rest of the pack are all deep asleep allowing Barley to be alone with her thoughts, she kept thinking about Bobbin and what must have happened to him. If she had to bet she'd think those mentors might have had something to do with it.
"Go to sleep lover girl"Tanner's voice announces breaking Barley out of her thoughts, she had no idea he was even awake.
Barley looks over at him. "I'm okay thanks Tan"Barley tells the slightly older boy as convincingly as she can.
Tanner looks over at her. "Bullshit,"Tanner tells her not believing a word out of her mouth. "Anyone can see clear as day you're tired, get some sleep before I get your girlfriend to make you"
Barley sighs knowing out of all the pack members Tanner is the hardest to get to back down from anything. "Fine"Barley groans annoyed laying down and closing her eyes.
Barley begins to fall into a semi-peaceful sleep but knows it won't last long.
BARLEY WAS AWOKEN from her sleep not just by the nightmares that plagued her mind, but also by screams and shouts that echoed off the walls of the tunnel system.
Barley sits up quickly and looks around the pack making sure everyone is okay, they are all awake and looking around as confused as Barley feels.
"What is that?"Tanner asks his voice groggy from sleeping.
Coral stands up quickly and grabs hold of her trident and turns to the pack a determined look on her face. "Let's go investigate,"Coral says.
The pack sets off in pursuit of the screaming, Barley walks down the tunnel hand and hand with Adam who is holding onto her very tightly.
The sounds get louder and louder as the pack reaches the main part of the arena, the pack watches from the exit as Jessup chases Lucy Gray up some rubble, before he can hurt her however a drone comes fly's straight into Jessup's chest sending the boy flying off the rubble.
His body hit the ground with a thud, his head cracking against the hard floor, bile began to rise in Barley's throat as the noise echoed around the arena, Lucy Gray quickly runs to her friend and helps to bring him peace as he dies.
Coral decides this was the moment to get Lucy Gray they quietly exiting the tunnel, Lucy Gray not knowing they were there until Tanner kicked a rock alerting her to their presence.
The pack quickly surrounded the girl from Twelve, leaving her with nowhere to run. She still tries however darting to the right as Mizzen mockingly calls out her name.
Treech and Barley both thrust out their weapons blocking her path. "Where are you going Songbird?"Barley questions.
"You stay right there"Treech continues a smirk forming on his face.
Mizzen propels his net at Lucy Gray and Adam harmlessly points a knife at Lucy but not being close enough to cause harm to the older tribute, a small smile appears on Barley's face as she thinks about how brave he's being.
Tanner threw his arm out launching his weapon at Lucy Gray knocking the girl to the ground as a grunt of pain escaped Lucy Gray's mouth in desperation Lucy grabbed a rock a threw it at Treech as he approached her, Barley staying back to watch.
A large smirk appears on Treech's face as he looks over at Coral. "Hey Coral"Treech calls out. "Do you mind if I take this one"
Coral lifts her trident above her head ready to bring it down on Lucy. "Not a chance"Coral sneers a look of anger on her face. Just as a war cry escapes the red-haired girl's mouth, a drone seemingly comes out of nowhere, nearly taking off both Coral and Lucy Gray's heads before crashing against the wall.
More drones begin to appear, one smacking Mizzen in the back a small grunt of pain escaping his mouth as he hits the ground, another drone catches Tanner directly sending him straight to the ground, and a third comes down first colliding straight with Adam, who lets out a loud yelp as he hits the ground.
Before Barley can check on him the drone comes flying straight at her and Treech, the boy from Seven swatting the drone away with his axe and sending it straight into Coral. The last drone then came flying straight at Treech sending him flying backwards and knocking him straight into Barley who lands on the ground with a grunt.
Pain immediately shoots up Barley's spine a small whimper escapes her mouth as the injury to her back from the bombing begins to plague her again she manages to shove Treech's body off her. Barley's vision blurred and is unable to focus on anything, her ears ring and more aches and pains shoot up her spine.
Adam stood up and quickly ran over to his sister, he crouched down in front of her. "Barley?"Adam asks his voice muffled but Barley can still manage to somewhat hear the worry in his voice. "Are you okay?"
Barley's vision slowly cleared and she slowly began to sit up, Adam taking hold of her arm in an attempt to help. "Those drones are fucking stupid"Barley announces letting the pack know she's somewhat okay. Her attention then focused on Treech. "You weigh more than you look"
A small laugh escapes Treech's lips as he lies a few meters from Barley.
A cough emits from Coral as she stands up. "You....idiots. How could you let her get away?"Coral scolds them, it's at that moment that Barley realizes that Lucy Gray is indeed gone and begins to wonder where she could have gone.
Treech who Barley noticed was never able to keep quiet, gives Coral an annoyed look "I couldn't see a thing"Treech tells her.
Coral quickly grabs hold of Treech's jacket, hauling up the boy from Seven so he is face-to-face with the red-haired girl, Treech immediately glued his eyes to the floor unable to keep eye contact with Coral.
"Get this water into a pile, Lumberjack"Coral demands deliberately enunciating the Lumberjack part in a deliberate attempt to annoy Treech. The boy's jaw visibly clenched, and the rest of the pack watches on in anticipation.
"Then when you're done, you two"Coral tells him gesturing to Tanner as well. "Can watch that beam while we get your little friend from back home up there a least".
It was only at that moment that Barley clocked Lamina up on the beam where Marcus had been hung on, she then saw Marcus's body on the ground, she looked up at Lamina and quickly figured out she had put Marcus out of his misery.
The quiet girl from District Seven was able to do something that Barley was seemingly incapable of doing.
