Chapter 2: Brave New World

Dylan's at the Lockwood Residence in the living room speaking with Carol. Carol says, "So I understand John Gilbert has left town. Have they found the vampire that attacked him?" Dylan says, "Well, the sheriff has asked me to take the lead on that and I promise you I will get to the bottom of it." Carol says, "Which brings me to my next subject. With Richard gone I'll be acting as interim mayor until the elections and I'm going to need someone to spearhead the council." Dylan nods and says, "Oh." Carol says, "I'd like that person to be you." Dylan says, "Whatever you need, Carol. As a founding family member it's something that's very close to me so I would be honored to help keep this town safe from vampires." They both hear laughing and turn their heads to the door as Tyler and Mason come walking in. Carol gets up and goes to close the doors. Dylan lowers her voice and says, "Is it safe to talk?" Carol walks back over and says, "It's my brother-in-law Mason. He's still visiting. I just don't want him to hear us. He didn't want any part of the council when he lived here and I see no reason to bring him into it now." Dylan listens in on Tyler's conversation with Mason. Tyler says, "What was that, like seven?" Mason says, "Six. I don't count the last one. You crawled it." Tyler says, "What?" Mason says, "Think Grandma Lockwood actually passed you... in her walker." Mason laughs as Tyler says, "Okay. Shoes off. Mud, my mom..." Mason says, "Cool. Yeah, yeah. So all this anger and aggression you're talking about you notice a different when you exercise?" Tyler scoffs and says, "Dude, I play three varsity sports. I work out four times a week and run three. I'm gonna say no." Mason says, "Do you have episodes? I mean, what happens exactly?" Tyler says, "Starts out normal. You get angry, typically over nothing. I'm an angry guy. You know, it just amplifies, and then I go off." Mason says, "You black out?" Tyler says, "Yeah. It's like I go blind with rage." Mason says, "Is there a pattern? Like once a month? Only at night?" Tyler says, "All I know is I lose myself.You know? For that time... I become something else. And I hate it." Dylan curious about Mason and she wants to find out more about him. Carol says, "More tea? Dylan?" Dylan snaps out of it and says, "Oh. Yes, please. Thank you, Carol." Later, Dylan's home in her living room pouring herself a glass of blood when Stefan walks in as Dylan says, "Would you care for one?" Stefan says, "No, thank you. I'm not hungry. Just ate." Stefan points to Dylan's glass of blood as he says, "I'm just happy that's a, uh... a blood bag and not a sorority girl supplying your dinner." Dylan nods and says, "You're worried I'm gonna explode, right?" Stefan crosses his arms and says, "Well, after what happened last night, are you surprised? Katherine really got into your head." Dylan says, "Hey, I'm over it." Stefan says, "Are you? Because if you want to talk about it, I'm here." Dylan says, "And I appreciate that, but I'm fine. Really, Stef. Anyway, I think the Lockwood's have a family secret because the Gilbert device affected them but vervain didn't, so they're not vampires. They're something else." Stefan says, "Is this your new obsession?" Dylan says, "It's not an obsession. I'm just curious." Stefan nods and says, "Okay. You know, we haven't seen the last of Katherine. We have no idea what she's up to." Dylan says, "Don't worry, we'll soon figure what Katherine's up to but for now I have other things to worry about. See ya." Dylan walks away. Later, Dylan's at the carnival and she finds Tyler arm wrestling with some guys. Stefan walks up beside Dylan and says, "Wow. You're lurking." Dylan says, "I'm observing." Stefan says, "More like obsessing." Tyler wins the arm wrestle. Dylan says, "He's got strength." Stefan says, "He's a triple-letter varsity athlete. Of course, he has strength. You're reaching." Mason walks up to Tyler and says, "I bet I can take you." Dylan says, "Enter the uncle." Stefan says, "This is ridiculous." The bell rings and Mason wins. Tyler says, "Alright, he's the champ. Who wants to go next?" Dylan points to Stefan and says, "Uh, Stefan wants a go." Stefan gives Dylan a look and he says, "Thank you for that." Dylan smiles and says, "No problem." Stefan looks at Mason and says, "Yeah, sure. I'll, uh... I'll give it a shot." Stefan walks up to the table as Dylan says, "Go, Stef. Get him, Stef." As Stefan and Mason grab hands Stefan says, "My sister over there thinks I can beat you." Mason says, "Your sister's wrong." The bell rings and Dylan frowns at how Mason beat Stefan. Stefan walks over to Dylan and Dylan says, "You seriously lost to him. Did you even try?" Stefan says, "Yeah, actually, I did." Dylan says, "Interesting. Come with me." Dylan walks away with Stefan behind her. Dylan faces Stefan and says, "Is he--" Stefan cuts her off and says, "No, no, no. It wasn't that kind of strength but it was more than human if that makes any sense." Dylan says, "What is up with that family? If they're not vampires, then what the fuck are they?" Stefan says, "Ooh. Uh, maybe they're, uh, Ninja Turtles." Dylan rolls her eyes and says, "That's not funny." Stefan says, "Or, no, zombies. Werewolves." Dylan says, "Just stop, please." Stefan smiles as Dylan looks over to see a guy. Stefan follows his sister's gaze and says, "What? What are you up to?" Dylan says, "I wanna test something." Dylan walks over to the guy fixing something and she says, "Hey, you." The guy scoffs and says, "I have a name." Dylan says, "Yeah, I don't care." Dylan grabs the guy's shoulders and compels him as she says, "I need you to pick a fight with someone. Kid named Tyler Lockwood." Stefan says, "Dylan, don't do this." Dylan waves Stefan off and says, "It's just an experiment. Get him mad. Don't back down, no matter what he does, okay?" The guy says, "I won't back down." Dylan says, "I know you won't." Dylan lets the guy go and the guy walks away. Stefan says, "You do realize somebody's gonna get hurt, right?" Dylan says, "No, someone's gonna get mad, as in rage." Stefan crosses his arms and says, "And what's that gonna accomplish?" Dylan says, "That Tyler is incapable of walking away from a fight. Let's see who intervenes. Maybe it's the ambiguously supernatural mystery uncle." Stefan scoffs as Dylan walks away. As Dylan's walking the halls of the school she hears footsteps behind her and she turns to see Caroline. Dylan says, "Oh, hey, blondie. They let you out." Caroline says, "I remember." Dylan crosses her arms with a smirk and says, "What do you remember?" Caroline says, "I remember how you manipulated me. You pushed me around, abused me erased my memories. Fed on me." Dylan chuckles and says, "Did I now?" Caroline says, "Well, the memories have been coming back in pieces." Dylan says, "You can't remember. It's impossible. I mean, unless you were becoming a..." Dylan realizes that Caroline's a vampire. Caroline says, "I have a message from Katherine. She said, 'Game on.'" Dylan says, "What the fuck is that supposed to mean?" Caroline simply smirks and as she walks away, Dylan grabs her shoulder but Caroline grabs Dylan's wrist and throws her across the hall. Caroline says, "You suck." Caroline walks away and Dylan mutters, "Bitch." Later, Dylan goes to find Elena and she finds her over by the ring toss and she says, "Elena." Elena looks at Dylan and says, "What is it?" Dylan says, "I need you to come with me, please." Elena sees the urgency in Dylan's eyes and she nods. Later, Dylan's in a class room with Elena and Stefan and she told them about Caroline being a vampire. Stefan says, "How did this happen? Hmm?" Dylan says, "Well, I fed her my blood and Katherine obviously killed her." Elena says, "But why?" Dylan says, "Because Katherine is a manipulative nasty little slut." Stefan says, "And she said, "Game on?" I mean, what does that even mean?" Dylan says, "It means she's playing dirty. She wants us to know." Elena says, "But why Caroline?" Dylan says, "I don't know." Stefan says, "Caroline must be completely out of her mind. She has no idea what's happening to her." Dylan says, "Oh, I think she does. All of my compulsion from the past started wearing off the minute she was in transition." Stefan says, "We have to find her." Dylan says, "Yep, and kill her." Elena says, "You're not gonna kill Caroline." Dylan says, "She knows who we are. She's officially a liability. We gotta get rid of her." Stefan says, "Dylan, absolutely not." Dylan says, "Need I remind you of a tragic little story of a girl named Vicki Donovan? Yeah, Caroline, of all people will not make it as a vampire. Her mother's a vampire hunter. Guys, come on. We all know how this story ends." Elena says, "It's not an option, Dylan." Dylan sighs and says, "Fine, but what happens it's all on you two." Dylan walks out the room. Later, Dylan's eating cotton candy when her phone rings. Dylan sees it's Stefan and she answers and says, "What?" Stefan says, "You know that guy you compelled to go after Tyler?" Dylan says, "Yeah." Stefan says, "Yeah, well, he's dead. Caroline killed him." Dylan says, "Okay. And?" Stefan says, "I need you to come and take care of the body." Dylan sighs and says, "I'm on my way." Later, Dylan's in the back of the school where she sees the dead guy she compelled and a crying Caroline who Elena and Stefan are trying to calm down. Dylan starts dumping gasoline all over the guy when Bonnie rushes up to guy with tears in her eyes. Dylan looks at Elena and says, "Get her out of here, will you." Elena nods and goes to grab Bonnie when Bonnie shakes Elena off her and says, "No." As Dylan goes to light the body on fire, she grabs her head in pain as she groans. Her head feels like it's gonna explode. Bonnie uses her magic to turn on the water as she says, "I told you what would happen if anyone else got hurt." Dylan groans, "I didn't do this!" Elena says, "Bonnie, it wasn't her fault." Bonnie says, "Everything that happens is her fault, Elena." Elena's confused at the water pouring out of the hose as she says, "Bonnie, what are you doing?" Dylan sees a fire trail head straight towards her. Elena says, "Bonnie, Bonnie, stop it." Dylan's still groaning in pain from her head as the fire comes towards her and starts going over her body making her scream in pain. Elena yells, "Bonnie, stop it! You're gonna kill her! Bonnie!" Elena shakes Bonnie out of her trance as the fire stops consuming Dylan and Dylan can feel no pain in her head. Bonnie pushes Elena away from her angrily says, "Why, why did you stop me?" Elena says, "Because this isn't us. Bonnie, this can't be us. Come on." Elena wraps Bonnie up in a hug as Dylan pants glaring daggers at Bonnie and as she gets up she says, "You know, if it's anyone's fault, it's yours Bonnie." Elena sighs and says, "Dylan, don't." Dylan says, "Come on, Elena. Bonnie's the one who didn't deactivate the Gilbert device making Tyler crash the car which hurt Caroline making her go into the hospital which then I give her my blood to heal her and then Katherine kills her making her a vampire. So, no, Elena I'm not the bad girl this time, it's Bonnie. It's her fault Caroline's a vampire." Dylan walks over to the dead guy's body and lights his body on fire watching it burn. Dylan thought it would be easier to burn the body than bury since the cops found Vicki's dead body that she buried. Once the body is buried, she speeds away into the night.
