Chapter 18: The Last Dance

Dylan and Stefan are waiting outside the house as Elena signs the deed to their house as her own. Dylan has her arms crossed as she says, "You really think Bonnie can take on Klaus?" Stefan says, "She said she could channel enough witch's power to kill him. Elijah thought that would work and he was an Original, so..." Dylan says, "We just need to find him." Stefan says, "Yeah." Dylan says, "Could she do one of those witch tracking spells?" Stefan says, "Nope. Not without something that belongs to Klaus. Believe me, I already asked." Dylan says, "Do you think he killed her?" Stefan says, "Katherine? Probably." Dylan says, "It's not like she didn't have it coming." Stefan says, "Yeah." The door opens and Elena smiles at Mr. Henry and says, "Thank you, Mr. Henry." Mr. Henry walks away. As Dylan and Stefan go to walk in their house, they can't and Elena says, "I'm sorry. I completely forgot. Stefan. Would you like to come inside my house?" Stefan smiles and says, "I would love to. Thank you." Stefan walks in. Elena looks over at Dylan as Dylan says, "Well, what are you waiting for, aren't you gonna let me in?" Elena nods and says, "On one condition." Dylan rolls her eyes and says, "And that is?" Elena says, "If I let you in do you promise to obey the owner of this house?" Dylan fake smiles and says, "I promise." Elena smiles and says, "Then, come in Dylan." Dylan fake smiles as she walks into her house. Bonnie walks up to Elena and hands her her jacket as she says, "Thanks." Stefan looks at them confused as he says, "Wait, where are you going?" Elena says, "To school." Stefan says, "Huh?" Dylan says, "No, we didn't create a safe house for you to leave it." Stefan says, "Yeah, guys. Klaus is out there. We know that." Elena says, "Right. But where? No one knows. Look. I really appreciate what you guys are doing. And I'll be able to sleep at night knowing that I'll be safe here but I'm not gonna be a prisoner." Dylan says, "Whatever, Elena." Bonnie says, "Don't worry, I'm ready. If he shows his face, I can take him. I know how." Elena smiles and says, "The way I see it, next to Bonnie is the safest place that I can be. Come on." As Elena and Bonnie walk away, Stefan says, "Wait, um, coming." Stefan follows after them as Dylan shakes her head. Later, Elena and Bonnie are back at the boarding house because Klaus compelled a student that Klaus wants to see Elena at the dance. Dylan says, "So we go to the dance, we find him." Stefan says, "Really? How're we going to do that? We don't even know what he looks like." Dylan says, "Something tells me he's not gonna be sixteen and pimply." Stefan says, "He could be anywhere at any time. He compelled somebody at school. I guess it's not as safe as you guys thought, huh?" There's a knock on the door and 'Alaric' walks in. Dylan says, "There you are." 'Alaric' walks over to them as he says, "I'm sorry I'm late." Dylan says, "Hey, I need you to put me down as a chaperone at the dance tonight. Klaus made his first move." Elena says, "Okay, so we find him and then what, hmm? What's our plan of attack?" Bonnie says, "Me. I'm the plan. He has no idea how much power I can channel. If you can find him, I can kill him." 'Alaric' chuckles as he says, "That's not going to be that easy. I mean, he's the biggest baddest vampire around." Dylan says, "Alaric has a point. I mean, what if he..." As Dylan speeds over to Bonnie, Bonnie uses her magic and tosses Dylan across the room. Dylan groans as she gets up pretty impressed at Bonnie. Stefan says, "Well, I was impressed." Bonnie says, "It doesn't matter if he's an Original. I can take down anyone who comes at me. I can kill him, Elena. I know I can." Elena nods with a smile. Later, Dylan arrives at the school before Stefan and Elena do and she looks over at Jeremy and Bonnie listening in on their conversation. Jeremy takes off his ring as he says, "Look, I, um... I want you to have this." Bonnie says, "If you're asking me to go steady I think that was the '50s." Jeremy says, "No, I'm serious, Bonnie." Bonnie says, "The ring won't work on me, Jeremy." Jeremy says, "But it was made by a witch." Bonnie says, "To protect from the supernatural not for someone who is." Jeremy says, "Well, I have to do something. I can't just... I can't just let you get yourself killed." Bonnie says, "Just because a bunch of dead witches gave me a warning doesn't mean I'm gonna die." Jeremy says, "So, you're saying there's a 50-50 short you won't? Look, I'm sorry. But... You know I don't have the best luck in the girlfriend department." Bonnie says, "Hey... Listen, I... I can't explain it. But I can feel them. I'm empowered, Jeremy, I can do this. I know I can. I'm strong enough." Dylan walks over to the entrance and looks over at Bonnie with an unreadable expression. Bonnie says, "Dylan." Dylan says, "Evening." Dylan walks into the dance when Stefan, Elena, Jeremy, and Bonnie enter walking up beside her. Dana's up at the microphone as she says, "Thanks for being here, everybody." The crowd cheers as the group moves through the crowd, Dana says, "We have a special shout-out tonight. This is for Elena... from Klaus." The crowd cheers. Dylan says, "That was a lame, cheap shot. He's just trying to bait us." Elena says, "I know everyone here." Stefan says, "Maybe he's not here. Just wants us to believe that he is." Dylan says, "It's a party, people. Blend. Let him come to us." Bonnie says, "Good idea." Bonnie drags Jeremy out onto the dance floor. Dylan looks over and sees Alaric as she says, "There's Ric. I'll be back." Dylan walks away and over to 'Alaric'. 'Alaric' says, "Special dedication, huh? This guy's a little twisted." Dylan says, "I'm not impressed." 'Alaric' says, "No?" Dylans says, "Let me know if you see anything out of whack." Dylan walks away. Dylan's in the crowd keeping a watchful eye when she sees Stefan nod her head at her to watch Elena. Dylan nods and moves through the crowd over to Elena as Stefan spins Elena into Dylan's arms. Dylan smirks at Elena dancing with her as she says, "How you doing?" Elena says, "Um, freaking out a bit. You?" Dylan says, "Cool as a cucumber. Come on, remember the last decade dance? The vampires were all, "Argh!" And you were all, 'Aah!'" Elena says, "Right. And you won." Dylan smiles and says, "Yes! We did." Dylan spins Dylan into her arms as Elena smiles and says, "You're good at this." Dylan smirks and says, "I've got moves you've never seen." Dylan twirls Elena as Elena laughs and Dylan smiles enjoying the smile on Elena's face as it brings warmth to her heart. Later, a slow song comes on and Dylan walks over to Bonnie and Jeremy as she says, "May I?" Bonnie pulls away from Jeremy as she nods. Jeremy nods and walks away. As Dylan and Bonnie dance, Bonnie says, "You heard Jeremy and me talking, didn't you?" Dylan says, "Is it true?" Bonnie says, "Yes." Dylan spins Bonnie into her arms so Bonnie's facing away from her as she says, "The part about you having a 50-50 shot of surviving? Is that true?" Bonnie says, "He was upset. I didn't want him to worry." Dylan says, "So you lay it out on the line for Elena, no matter what." Dylan spins Bonnie so she's facing her as Bonnie says, "No matter what." Dylan says, "Alright, then." Bonnie says, "You can't tell her." Dylan says, "Your secret's safe with me but I mean... With all that power is there no way to increase your odds?" Bonnie softly smiles as she says, "Careful, Dylan. I might start to think you actually care." Dylan softly says, "So what if I do?" Bonnie smiles and says, "I'd say you'd had a change of heart in the way you feel about me." Dylan chuckles and says, "You may be annoying, but I can somewhat tolerate you." Bonnie chuckles as Dylan spins Bonnie around until Bonnie crashes into Dylan's chest. The two stare into each other's eyes with a deeper connection that makes Bonnie question why Dylan of all people would care about her. Later, Dylan's by the punch bowl when she watches Elena drag Bonnie away. Stefan walks over to Dylan as Stefan says, "Please tell me you didn't know that Bonnie was on a suicide mission." Dylan scoffs and says, "Of course Jeremy told you and you told Elena." Stefan says, "Yeah, I told her. You promised her no more secrets." Dylan says, "I lied." Stefan scoffs shaking his head. Later, Dylan and Stefan leave the gym when they hear grunting and they run towards the noise finding a group of guys beating up Jeremy. Dylan says, "Hey idiots!" As one of the guys shoot a crossbow filled with wooden takes at Dylan, she's quick to catch it as she says, "Let me guess... Klaus says 'Hi?'" As Stefan knocks down the other two guys, Dylan does the same with the guy who shot her only she throws him into the lockers. Dylan says, "You know this was a distraction, right?" Stefan nods and says, "Yeah. Go find Bonnie and Elena. I got this. Go." Dylan nods and speeds around the school searching for Bonnie and Elena when she sees them running towards her. Dylan worriedly says, "What happened?" Elena pants, "Klaus-Klaus is in Alaric's body." Dylan says, "I'm sorry what?" Bonnie says, "He's possessing it. Or something." Dylan looks at Elena and says, "Go find Stefan. Now." Elena nods and says, "Okay." Elena nods and runs away. Dylan looks over at Bonnie and says, "Can you kill him?" Bonnie says, "He's got some kind of protection spell on him." Dylan says, "You have the power of a 100 witches. Break it." Bonnie says, "I'm trying! But if I kill Alaric he'll just possess someone else. He knows I have my power, Dylan. He's trying to kill me." Dylan says, "No. Klaus does not get to win tonight, no way. You still willing to do whatever it takes to kill him?" Bonnie nods. Later, Dylan walks into the cafeteria were a 'dead' Bonnie lays with Elena sobbing over her body as Stefan tries to comfort her. Dylan says, "Stefan, get Elena out of here. I'll deal with the body." Elena cries, "What do you mean, deal with it?" Dylan walks over to Bonnie's body as she says, "The sheriff can't know about this. Last thing we need is another mysterious death." Elena cries, "This is Bonnie!" Dylan sighs and looks at Stefan and says, "Get her home. Now. So I can clean this up." Stefan looks at Elena and softly says, "Hey, hey, hey." Stefan helps Elena up as Elena cries, "No. Jeremy. Oh, my God, Jeremy. What about Jeremy?" Dylan says, "I'll find him." Stefan takes a sobbing Elena away. Dylan looks down at Bonnie as she looks really dead. Dylan caresses Bonnie's cheek with a longing look as she closes Bonnie's eyes and lifts her up into her arms. Dylan walks out the school and over to her car. Dylan opens her trunk as she she carefully lays Bonnie down in it. Dylan closes the trunk as Jeremy runs over and says, "Dylan! Hey, I got your message. I can't find anyone! Where's Elena, where's Bonnie?" Dylan softly says, "We need to have a little talk." Later, Dylan walks into her house after dropping Bonnie and Jeremy off at the witch's house. Elena glares at Dylan and says, "What did you do with her?" Dylan walks over as she looks at Stefan and says, "Will you please calm her down?" Elena sniffs as she says, "Don't talk like I'm not standing right in front of you." Dylan says, "Please calm down." Elena cries, "You knew! Didn't you? You knew that if she harnessed all that power that she would die, didn't you?" Dylan says, "Yes. Yes, I knew." Elena slaps Dylan, but Dylan's unfazed as she says, "You need to listen to me and prepare for what I'm about to say. Bonnie had to die. Klaus using Alaric's body was a total surprise. She wasn't prepared for that. And he wasn't going to stop and we weren't going to be able to stop him until he knew she was dead. He had to believe it. She cast a spell. Bonnie's okay." Dylan walks away. As Dylan starts heading up the stairs, Stefan follows after her and says, "You know, you could have told me." Dylan says, "Could I? You would have told Elena." Stefan says, "You understand what you put her through?" Dylan says, "See, that's why I didn't tell you. 'Cause you would've never been able to do it. Don't get me wrong, Stefan. I don't mind being the bad guy. I'll make all the life and death decisions while you're busy worrying about collateral damage. I'll even let her hate me for it. But at the end of the day I'll be the one to keep her alive." Dylan walks up the stairs. Later, Dylan's in her room taking off her jacket when she senses Elena walk in. Dylan sighs and says, "Look. Klaus had to think she was dead. Your reaction had to be real." Elena says, "I understand why you did what you did. Klaus was fooled and... Bonnie's alive." Dylan says, "Here's to duplicity." Elena walks over to Dylan as she says, "Let's get one thing straight, Dylan. Bonnie will not die for me. I will not let that happen." Dylan says, "We need to kill Klaus, Elena. Real Klaus. Who will probably be coming to pay you a visit soon now that he knows that Bonnie is dead. She's the only one who can do it." Elena says, "We'll find another way." Dylan says, "I hope so." Elena sighs and says, "Look, I shouldn't have hit you." Dylan says, "Apologize accepted." Elena says, "Goodnight, Dylan." Dylan says, "Goodnight." Elena walks away.
