Chapter-21 ~The Day of Reckoning Part-2

Twilight had already managed to get into the truck, soon he would enter the parliament building easily.

It was now Nightfall's turn to infiltrate. She had her disguise ready along with the identity card which would be scanned. WISE had procured Weigel's real car for her as well. As for Weigel herself, she was sleeping soundly in a WISE lock up.

"Ready, Nightfall?", spoke Midnight over the comms.

She replied, "Affirmative. I'm leaving the van and entering the vehicle. I will contact you once I enter the building."

Nightfall got into Weigel's car which was also parked in that alleyway and drove along the same route Weigel used to and reached the parliament.

This was the first time Nightfall has experienced such nervousness, because not only her life was on the line, Twilight's was as well.

*Come on Nightfall, this is your only chance to prove yourself to Twilight. You can't screw this up. * she thought.

She approached the driveway. There was a young guard sitting inside the booth. She unrolled her window and waited for the guard to greet her.

"Hey there! Good morning, Betty.", he spoke.

Nightfall replied enthusiastically, "Good morning!"

The guard asked, "ID card?"

She handed over the ID card to him. The guard proceeded to scan the card.

He nodded, "Alright. Have a great day! Oh and also, don't forget that we'll have coffee together today!"

Nightfall was now under more stress. If Weigel had planned a coffee date with this guy and if she doesn't come, he may try to reach her. This could be a problem, however, guys do get ditched a lot, so it wouldn't be that bad - she thought.

There was a huge garden behind the main gate. There were trees, flowers, fountains and behind the garden was one of the biggest architectural marvels ever seen. She walked through the garden and inside the building.

"Rough day, today.", she said.

Midnight replied, "Alright, great job. Just work normally as Betty and stay put. You can be required in action if needed. I've established a comm link between you and Twilight so he can guide you."

Twilight's truck had been scanned and he was at the unloading area. The food from the truck was being unloaded in the presence of 2-3 security personnel. Twilight had to think of a plan to get past the security guards and enter the building.

Twilight spoke, "I am Jeffery Blinks, supervisor of Ostanian Catering Authority. I assume you guards must be aware of the event happening here today."

Those guards were not Ostanian Guard. They were standard security personnel and thus they did not have the clearance to know about the war cabinet. Twilight used this to his advantage.

The guards were confused and just nodded.

"Well, don't mention it in front of my worker. He is not allowed to know. Moreover, on the behalf of the Ostanian Catering Authority, I will be taking a post today at the parliament for supervisory duties. I have a task l for you both.", he spoke.

One of the guards asked, "Yes sir?"

Twilight replied, "Well, I presume that you've already received standard guarding and security training. The truth is, I do not trust the truck driver. I would like to request you to closely identify him and his identity card. Meanwhile, I'll head into the building and make sure that the food delivered hasn't been adulterated."

The guards replied, "Roger."

Twilight proceeded to enter the building. He kept walking across the narrow hallway. He opened the door that lead to the main reception of the building. And oh... that place was quite the marvel. The architecture and interior resembled traditional Ostanian buildings and there were many beautiful and famous paintings on the walls. The floor was black and white marble. He kept walking and did not attract any attention. Thankfully, he remembered the building's interior map and knew where to exactly go.

He walked across the hallway and was waiting at the lift lobby. There were men with hats all over the building... most of them were SSS agents. To the parliament employees, they were informed that this was an Ethics and Corruption Committee inspection. That was a sub-branch of the SSS. Twilight entered the lift and went to the first floor as all staff had been prohibited from going to the second floor.

He reached the first floor and tried to find the fire exit door. A man, presumably an SSS agent approached Twilight as he was walking towards the fire exit.

"May I ask you where you're going?", he asked.

Twilight replied, "Just trying to find the goddamn bathroom on this floor."

The man adjusted his hat, "Since when did you even start working here?"

Twilight replied, "It's been a week sir, that's why I'm not able to find the bathroom."

The man patted Twilight's shoulder, "Oh really, lad? From what I was informed, there have been no job acceptances or applications since exactly one week. I wonder how you got accepted."

Twilight chuckled, "Of course... I sent the application last month but it only got accepted last week, sir. I am not much aware of the recruitment system and its processes. Everyone has been saying that there's an ECC inspection going around. Are you from the ECC?"

He smirked, "Hmm.. you really are new. Ones with experience would never dare to ask such a question. Well, I am warning you... not all questions are supposed to be asked."

Twilight nodded, "My apologies." and then proceeded to walk further.

Then he heart a voice from his back, "Oh and... the washroom is in the next hallway. Just keep walking straight and turn right when you see a door."

Twilight was now at the fire exit door. Obviously, the door had been locked by the SSS. Twilight had no choice but to break the lock. He carried a lock pick in his backpack and broke in.

He walked upstairs. There were no cameras in the fire exit. "Overwatch... instead of entering the bathroom... why don't I wait it out here and change into my Ostanian Guard disguise? There are no cameras here."

Sylvia responded, "Approved. Also, the convoy is about to reach in an hour. Prepare yourself, Twilight. Do not let us down."

Twilight responded, "I won't, handler. I won't let anyone down. That is a promise."

AUTHOR's NOTE: Hey guys... sorry if this chapter felt kind of dull. I wanted to get this out by today as tomorrow is my first board level exam... so there won't be any updates for quite a long while. But, don't worry, the story will receive frequent updates during March. See ya all on 11th March!!
