Stefan startled awake as he quickly looked around. He quickly reached for his bloody shirt and caught sight that the wound which was once there was gone. He also caught sight of the ring on his hand. He examined it closely and as he did so Emily approached the young man.
"Katherine had me make that for you weeks ago." Emily said as she walked over to him with some freshly washed clothes.
"Where am I?" Stefan questioned as he remained seated.
"The quarry just north of town. My brother and I brought you here last night. We found you dead in the woods." Emily said as she handed him the clothes.
"Where's Damon?" Stefan questioned as Emily simply looked out onto the water.
Stefan followed her eyes and saw Damon sitting shirtless near the water. He quickly turned back to the young witch all while remaining seated.
"Am I... Am I a...?" Stefan questioned with confusion evident in his voice.
"Not yet. You're in transition." Emily said as Stefan shook his head in denial.
"But how? I..." Stefan said before Emily cut him off.
"You had Katherine's blood in your system when you died." Emily said as Stefan looked in the distance at the realization.
"And Damon?" Stefan questioned as he looked over at his brother.
"Unlike you, Damon had to be compeled." Emily said as Stefan looked at his brother who was throwing rocks into the water.

Mystic Falls, PRESENT
Eliana walked into the living room where Damon stood with the device pearl had given him in hand.
"Did you ever figure out what that is?" Eliana questioned as Damon sighed shaking his head.
"Nope. Whatever it is, it doesn't work." Damon said as Eliana walked over to him.
"Pearl didn't say anything else about it?" Eliana questioned as Damon handed her the device.
"She thought she was stealing his vampire compass but it was a pocket watch. That Jonathan Gilbert was a crazy scientist. Have you spoken to your uncle lately?" Damon questioned right before Eliana handed him the device back.
