23: The Return

Eliana shifted uncomfortably as she came awake. She had been in and out since she had arrived to the hospital. She looked towards her left and noticed her brother asleep on the couch. She then turned to the other side and noticed Damon looking out of the window.

"What happened?" Eliana questioned with a raspy voice as she gained Damon's attention.

"Thank God you're okay. How are you feeling?" Damon questioned as he quickly made his way over to his girl's side.

"I have this huge headache but... other than that I feel okay. What happened?" Eliana questioned once again as Damon sighed and took her hand in his.

"The device took you down somehow. We still don't know why or how... But it caused the blood vessels in your head to pop, hint the headache." Damon said getting Eliana to nod.

"Yeah I know that but... But how did I end up here?" Eliana questioned as she sat up in the hospital bed.

"Well after you saved me from the fire, you collapsed. I tried feeding you my blood multiple times but it wasn't working. Actually it was but really slowly. Which worried us so we brought you here to the professionals." Damon said getting Eliana to nod.

"How long have I been out?" Eliana questioned as Damon simply shook his head.

"Not that long. We brought you in about four hours ago. I've compelled the doctors to rule your situation as a migraine to not make waves." Damon said as Eliana nodded.

"Oh god. You're awake. You're okay." They heard someone say from the door.

Eliana turned to the door and saw her godmother standing their in her work clothes with a huge smile on her face. She had small tears fall down as she quickly made her way over to the young girl.

Liz embraced Eliana for some time while Damon simply stepped out to give them a moment. Jeremy had yet to wake up. He had just fallen asleep therefore he'd be out for some time. Liz decided it was best to keep Caroline's situation from the young Gilbert girl for her own recovery. They would soon tell her but not yet.

After some time Eliana felt sleepy therefore Liz excused herself out to give the young girl some time to rest.

"Damon. Could I talk to you for a second?" Liz questioned as she lead Damon into the hallway.

"Uh... Sure. Let's take a walk." Damon said as Liz sent one last look at Eliana who was getting comfortable to sleep and also towards her daughters room which was two rooms down.

"I need your help, Damon." Liz said as they walked down the hall. "Mayor Lockwood is dead." She said getting Damon to act surprised even though he was there when it happened and when Liz told Tyler.

"They thought he was a vampire. Since he also got affected by the device somehow like Eliana." Liz said worriedly as Damon looked at her with furrowed eyebrows.

"They said he dropped like the others when John's device went off, but he... He wasn't helped like Eliana. Instead he was taken to the basement. Look Damon he couldn't have been a vampire. There was a huge mistake just like there was with Eliana." Liz ranted as Damon nodded in understanding trying to get Liz to calm down.

"Carol Lockwood is going to want answers but... But I don't think I'll be able to answer them because what if Eliana's state goes public? What will the council say about her going down like the other vampires? All I can think about is her and Caroline's safety...." Liz said before going into small quiet sobs.
