Jake's POV-

Reunion has ended
The chapter is back from 19. Light beam

And there it was...

The coordinates to a forest?

No, this isn't right. It can't be. I grabbed my jacket and headed out of my office. "Mason Mercer. Casey Jones. You guys will come with me." I say firmly, swinging my coat over myself. "I am not going to make the same mistake that I made few years back." I mumble to myself.

Going all on my own...

In an instant, the two were at my side. We walked out of the building. I explained to them the situation and they were keen to help. The only thing I didn't understand was that the clue apparently lead to a forest, unless I misread it.

Casey unlocked the car and we all got in. I told her the area that we were heading to and drove.

By now we were a good ten minutes into the drive. It's quite a distance. The sun began to set and the darkness spread.

Great.

"Got torches, Casey?" I asked looking out the window. "Always. Wouldn't leave without them." "I bet you would tho." Mason chuckled. "Shut up. I'm concentrating on the road." She groans. "Is there a day that you two don't bicker about everything?"

"Course there isn't." Casey breaths under her breath "Only in your dreams, sir." Mason chimes in."Just Jake. And it was a rhetorical question."

This will be a long journey. I sigh.

After a few minutes of listening to god knows what they were arguing about, I butt in. "How about some music to calm the mood." I grin, thinking it was a good idea. But not even a second later the argument goes onto a new topic. And guess what it's on about.

What genre of music to listen to.

"Let's listen to rock or hip hop." Mason says as he was about to press the radio buttons. "Nah uh. Alternative Indie." "You joking right? That's like the worst. What even is it."

It's not like a full on argument. No raised voices or anything, but it's just constant bickering between the two. Like siblings.

I just lean back trying to ignore them. I look out the window starting to see more trees, indicating that we're slowly moving out of the city. My heart starts to beat a bit faster. Maybe from the nerves. Blood pumping through my veins, as I become more aware of the world surrounding us.

Music finally started to play.

"Jazz? Seriously?" I look at the two. "It's the only thing we both made our minds on." Mason smiled. "Well I'm glad."

Casey begins to slow the car and brings it to a halt. "I believe we have arrived. What next?" She asks as she unbuckles her seat belt.

"Grab the torches." I command.

For some reason I couldn't think straight. I had to take a moment. I stepped out of the vehicle and was taking deep breaths. The rustling of the trees and bushes, the cold wind howling brought me back into reality.

The two got out of the car ready to go. I straightened my back, as if nothing had happened and if we went.

"So what are we looking for?" One of the two asked. "Good question. I don't have an answer to that, just yet. Just something unusual." I shrug.

As we were walking through the woods along a twigged path, we had to bring out the torches to illuminate our view.

Suddenly, before we even managed to switch on the light, there was the most ear-splitting echo of a child's scream that echoed through the dense forest, a chilling noise that was almost louder than any other sound in the night. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest, fear coursing through my veins as I tried to make sense of what was happening.

The three of us looked at one another with wide eyes as the scream was immediately cut off with a shotgun. The sound was like a thunderclap, and for a moment the forest was silent, the only sound the sound of the blood pounding in your ears.

Then, the silence was broken. The forest filled with the sound of voices, shouting and crying, the sound of confusion and fear. We could hear the sound of footsteps, the sound of people running for their lives.

What the fuck was happening.

Without any hesitation we ran in the direction of the source of the sound. Another shot pierced the air. We threw our selves to the ground and ducked listening in if there was anymore sound of guns going off. However, none was heard and the footsteps were getting quieter. They were moving away.

We got up and Mason whispered, "Do you guys hear that?" "Hear what?" Me and Casey whispered both at the same time.

"Sobs." We stood there listening. I even held my breath to hear better. He was right.

The cries were not so far away. We walked cautiously without trying to make a hassle. I could just barely make out a person bent over something and shaking.

"You guys stand back. I'll check." I pointed to the two and got closer to the person.

I placed a hand on their back. "Everything alright?" I asked politely, but she turned her head with the most horrified expression. "Please, don't hurt me." She begged and cried more. Her whole face was covered in blood and tears. "I'm not here to hurt you, ma'am. Only to help." Her eyes widened and her sobbing became more intense. "Please, please help her. Take me instead."

I looked at what she was bent over and was suddenly confronted by a sight that made my blood run cold. There was a young girl, no older than eight, lying on the ground. Blood oozing out of her body.

It wasn't a trap.

I checked the little girl's pulse. Nothing. "What happened, ma'am? Where were you both?"

I called over Casey and Mason to help the woman get her up on her feet. "Please tell me, is my daughter going to live." She whimpered. "What happened?" Mason repeated.

"She sacrificed herself. For everyone."

For everyone?
