Mason's Pov-
For all I know, each person was hugging and crying for hours. Families were finally together. Some people were complete. I was just standing there leaning against the mask of the vehicle we came with. I was watching everyone and I felt at peace. Casey walks over and stands beside me. For some odd reason I straightened my posture and cleared my throat as she walked over.
"Hey, You ok?" I look over to her. She continues to look in front of her with a pale expression. Maybe she just didn't hear or just doesn't want to acknowledge my presence.
I slowly leaned back onto the mask, but she suddenly embraced me. Her arms wrapped around me, I was startled, but in a good way. "Woah, there." I chuckled and lowered my hands to the side. "You should know that I should be thanking you, for everything." She mumbled just enough for it to be audible. She was pressing her face into my shirt, stifling her voice. "Oh really, what for." "Just you know, for everything in general. I know we have our little rivalry competitions and the constant bickering, but it's good to have you beside me." She continued to mumble.
A small smile forms on my face, as I stroke her head looking down at her. "Aw, that's so sweet."
I look over to my side and I see Jake crying hard with a slighter shorter guy with dark hair. They were both hugging tight, as if their life depended on it. Is this why he had this case as his main priority.
Either way, I'm glad he had found him; Jake never talked about his past. And I respect that.
Drew's POV-
We eventually pull apart. I missed him so much and I look up at him. His teary eyes meet with mine. Then a paramedic takes me aside to check up on my injuries. As she does so, some people with an army uniform drag out a platform with black foil covering something. The shape was shaped like a body. No doubt it was my father. I felt ashamed of what I had done and a small sharp pain gradually increased in my throat and chest. I couldn't breathe properly. I felt as if I was breathing through a straw. I grabbed onto my collar and pulled it down hoping that it would allow me to catch a breath.
"Drew? Everything okay? Breathe with me." The woman smiled warmly and held my hands firmly. "I can't." I gasped out.
"You just had a traumatic experience. It's normal for you to be having struggles. We'll get through them." By the time she finished speaking nothing changed. I continued to breathe fast and shallow and I couldn't stop. I look over to Jake, but he was looking elsewhere wiping his face.
He quickly glanced and then had a double take. He instantly knew what was happening and rapidly walked over to us and rubbed my back. I tried very hard to breathe in a regular pattern, the same as the nurse was doing. I eventually handled it and was calming down.
"I think it might be best if we take you to the hospital just to keep an eye on you." The nurse says and calls over her helpers. I just nodded not wanting to speak at the moment. "I'll be there by your side at all times." Jake said as he stood and continued to rub my back. I was calming down.
"Officer Sterling, you can't just leave your job and go to the hospital. Park the car at the station and then proceed to visit Drew later." She turns to Jake sternly. Jake glares at the nurse. "Alright. I'll be there as soon as I can." He looks warmly at me.
Jake's POV-
Drew gets taken by the ambulance and I am going to take my car back and visit him. But, everyone was starting to clear. Ambulances were leaving with some people and the families were driving home. The last van was parked, which beside it had the platform with Drew's father on it.
I clenched my jaw and walked over to him. I pulled the trolley away from the vehicle and unzipped the top of the bag. I was faced with the pale-white corpse lifeless eyes. "What happened, huh? Cat got your tongue? You son of a bitch deserved more pain than just death." I hiss out pulling out a lighter from my side pocket. "You deserved nothing. Drew thought of you so much and looked up to you and all you did was shut him out. Guess he won't have to suffer anymore."
I continued blabbering about everything and nothing at the same time. I switched on my lighter and a flame flickered into existence. I moved it to the material of his clothes and set it alight. The surroundings instantly illuminated with light. The corpse was on fire burning. The skin on the face sizzled and began to melt. I smirked turning around and walking to car.
