Chapter 6

Almost two months passed since I took my decision, but finding Joy's father wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. Pam tried to contact the friend she met at the party that night, hoping to shed some light on the identity of the man, but we weren't lucky. This guy had gone to live in Thailand and she couldn't get through to him. But we didn't give up, although we didn't know where to start from. We didn't have a photo of him and although I remember his face perfectly; I didn't even know the colour of his eyes.

"Don't be sad Bri. I'm sure we will find him. Maybe we should hire a private investigator."

"What's the use? What can I tell to the private investigator? I don't know his name. I should have stayed that night. I should have talked to him." I said, realizing what an idiot I've been.

"It's too late now. But don't get discouraged." Pam said.

I sighed. "I don't know Pam, this is crazy. Maybe we should just wait for your friend to come back if he will ever come."

"What if he'll never do? No, there must be another way. I'll go to the restaurant where the party was held that night and talk to the owner. Perhaps he'll remember him or he knows him."

"I don't think so," I said. "I appreciate what you're doing, but I think it's useless."

After Pam left, I felt very sad. Suddenly I felt so lonely. I looked at Joy, who slept in her cot and cried. I should be grateful that at least I had her, but it wasn't enough. I missed having a man. I even missed Leo. Just then, someone knocked on my door. I glanced at the watch. It was very late. I wiped my tears away, fixed my hair, and then went to open it.

"Leo? What are you doing here? It's late." I told him.

"Hi Bri, sorry I know, but I wanted to see you."

"Problems? You look worried."

"I can't hide anything from you. You know me so well." He caressed my face, and I shivered, hating myself for feeling that way.

"It seems I'm not the only one to have had a bad day. What is it? Is Joy ok?"

"Yes, she is," I said as I closed the door behind him.

"But you're not. Come here." He told me as he opened his arms.

"I don't think that is a good idea."

"You need a hug and I need one, too."

It felt strange being in his arms. I loved the perfume he wore today. I loved the feeling of his warm chest. Yes, I needed a man in my life desperately, but not Leo. I pulled back and looked at him.

"I'm just tired, Leo, and bored," I admitted.

"Then why don't you return to work?"

I gazed into his eyes, surprised. "What? I can't. Not so soon."

"I can't cope anymore without you." He said. "I miss you. Please come back. I know I've been a jerk to you, although I promise I'll try to make it up to you. "

"There is no need. Our relationship ended." I reminded him.

"I know that, and I can't get used to not having you in my life. At least if I can't have you in my bed anymore, can I still have you in my office?"

"I don't think your bed is short of women." I snapped.

"I've only slept with one woman since you left me," He admitted.

"I don't care. Leo, why are you here? I'm not up to any of his right now."

"I told you. I want you back in the office."
