Chapter 10
I made my way to the office, I couldn't shake the feeling of unease that lingered in the pit of my stomach. The weight of my secrets bore down on me, threatening to consume me whole. What I had remembered had left me shocked. I didn't feel like going to the office. I didn't want to confront Leo. I hated him right now. He lied to me once more. I glanced at the tanga which I held in my handbag. I didn't even know why I took it. I felt angry and disappointed. I couldn't understand why it still got to me that Leo slept with other women. We were finished and I knew what kind of man he was, so why did it still hurt?
Tears welled in my eyes as I thought about today. Too many emotions and too many revelations happening at the same time. Leo leaving me for a long time, Liam's appearance in my life. How was I going to tell both of them who Joy's father was? How long could I keep up the facade, pretending that everything was normal when the truth threatened to unravel at any moment?
But now, as Liam's presence brought those memories rushing back, I couldn't help but wonder if fate was playing a cruel joke on me. How had our paths crossed once again?
As I arrived at the office, I braced myself for the inevitable chaos that awaited me. I already knew that Leo was going to be in a foul mood. As I stepped through the doors, I was met with a scene of utter pandemonium. Papers were strewn everywhere, phones were ringing off the hook, and my coworkers were running around in a frenzy, trying to keep up with the demands of the day.
"What's going on?" I asked, turning to Pam for answers.
"Where have you been, Bri? Leo decided that he wanted to do a spring clean. He told us to get out all the files pending."
"What? Why? Usually, I'm the one who takes care of those. Where is he?"
"In the office. He's furious. Be careful."
"Why should he be angry?""I don't know but the fact that you disappeared for such a long time with his brother made his blood boil."
"He was the one who sent me to greet his brother!" I snapped.
"Where have you been with him, anyway?" She asked curiosity in her eyes.
"I took him to a restaurant to eat, as he was starving."
"Oh?" She said with malice in her voice. "It looks like you like him."
"Well, yeah, he's a nice guy," I told her.
"Just that?"
"What are you expecting more? We only talked about work." I lied.
"So you're not interested in him?"
"Pam, why are you asking me all these questions?"
"Because I have a huge crush on him." She admitted. I felt my head whirling as I heard her say that. My stomach churned.
"I know that he's single at the moment and I thought maybe I could try my luck. I know he's out of my league, but trying doesn't kill anyone." She said.
I felt dizzy and tried my best to hide the awful sadness that had swept over me suddenly. I was trying to find something to tell her when suddenly I heard the door of Leo's office opening and he came out. He shot me a bad stare.
"Oh, finally you are here." He said, his voice full of annoyance. "Come here."
The air in the room grew thick with tension as I entered his office. His gaze immediately locked onto me. "Where's my brother?" he demanded, his voice sharp.
"He's at your house. I hope you don't mind that I took him there, as he needs to rest a little after the long journey."
"What? Why would you do that? And how did you go in anyway?!"
