EPISODE 6 : THE CHEF & THE CHORE BOY
( Only Death Calls )

THE LIFE DRAINS from Punto Alto after the departure of Marisol Cáliz. The Ocean grows restless, and oftentimes Estrella Narváez wakes with the chilling feeling of being submerged in heavy water.

It has been exactly a week since Marisol was given to Death's greedy hands. Estrella's tears have dried up, too lacking in moisture to procure any more salty liquid from her eyes.

( Even then, her tears are not her own. They are coveted by the devil that resides within her, an eternal reminder of the mistakes she made ).

The Narváez family can do nothing but watch as their daughter withers away beneath the shadows and the guilt, grief eating her alive. Estrella's father tries — In his own, calloused and twisted way — To comfort his daughter.

He gifts her a sword, engraved with the deep grooves of suns and waves and stars, with the scent of the bitter Ocean and the scorching Sun.

( That is perhaps the last gift her father brought into creation, simply for the sake of healing his daughter's broken soul ).

Estrella's mother offers her a dull warmth. She allows her daughter to weep in her arms and she holds her close enough to realize that Estrella's heartbeat is too slow, too dead to belong to a sixteen-year-old girl.

Marisol departs, taking along the last of Estrella Narváez's life with her.

( Estrella should've realized, that a Star cannot live without her Sun, nor could the Earth live without the Sea ).

The solitary life of a single star is lonely — It aches, ailing Estrella's tattered heart, ripping her celestial body apart and replacing it with heavy stone.

She can no longer lift her gaze to the sky, her dominion, the way she once had. The way they both had.

Punto Alto grows from soft earth to sturdy stone — And stone cannot float, as Estrella has learned.

It is inevitable that the place Estrella Narváez had once cultivated with her very soul falls when she is no longer whole.

THE FIRST PLAGUE arrives one scorchingly hot summer day. Tremors shake the foundations of Punto Alto, and the people of Valle Cerrado crawl out of their homes in a panic.

They gather before the Council of Elders — Los Arcángeles; The Archangels, as they are so lovingly revered to as — Who further wither away every passing minute, sagging beneath their sins and overly blind all-seeing eyes.
