2:27pmJason could still picture his sisters face when he told her he was leaving.
Flashback
"Thals! You don't understand. I don't belong here anymore. It doesn't feel right.""That doesn't even make any sense. You were fine yesterday. Why, all of a sudden, do you want to leave the only home you've ever known? Where are you gonna go, huh? No where is safe for people like us!"
"I've wanted to leave for a long time, sister. Mom's gone, Dad's gone, even Mellie is dead. With everyone gone, this place doesn't feel like home anymore. There's nothing left for me here. I'll find a new home and make a safe place for myself. I am leaving and there's nothing you can do about it."
"What about me, huh? You can't even stay for your sister?"
"You haven't acted like my sister since I turned six."
And with that, Jason left his childhood home, walking away from his shocked sister, not once looking back.
End Flashback
Jason had been gone for almost a year and he still hasn't settled down anywhere. Everywhere he tried to stay, people tried to kill him or he felt that they were all too shady and suspicious. Being what he was, people were always scared of him or wanted to capture and sell him for money. Storm spirits were apparently very valuable to humans.
Currently, he was wind-surfing through a forest away from the last village that tried to kill him. He had to keep ducking the branches and leaves hanging from the many trees. He zoomed around a tree, but then he slammed into something. Well, considering he was flying a few feet of the ground, he more or less tripped over it rather than slammed into it. This caused Jason to go flying into a tree.
Jason groaned as he pulled himself off the ground. He wasn't very hurt, but his back and side would bruise badly. He stretched out his back a bit, then turned around to see what he had tripped over.
He froze.
Standing in front of him was a large, black wolf with strange sea green eyes. The wolf was growling angrily at Jason and stalking his way towards him. Jason decided that today was not the day he wanted to die, but just as he was about to fly away another wolf, silver this time, kept out of the bushes and slammed into the black wolf. The black wolf simply fell over and shoved the silver wolf so that it went rolling away. The silver wolf got up, shook its fur clean and glared at the black wolf. If wolves could laugh, that's what the black one would be doing. The silver wolf launched itself at the black one and they started fighting, though it did not seem to be a real fight. It was almost like they were playing.
"Okay. While you guys do that I'm gonna run like hell." Jason whispered, knowing that right after the words left his mouth that he had made a mistake. The wolves heard him and whipped around. Jason kept backing away as they approached him, until he hit a tree that is. They kept coming closer and closer. Jason eventually closed his eyes expecting them to attack him at any second.
After a minute with his eyes closed and nothing happened, Jason opened one eye. Then he opened the other. The only thing he saw was two wolves rolling around on the ground doing that strange wolf laugh that the black one had done earlier.
"Think that's funny, huh? Laughing at poor terrified travelers? Well, you two should be ashamed of yourselves." Jason scolded. This just made the wolves laugh harder. To be honest, the laughing sounded like wheezing, like they were being choked. Jason hmph'd at them.
Suddenly there was a slight shimmer and a pop that came from the wolves. When Jason looked back at the wolves, they weren't there anymore. In their places were two teenagers, a girl and a boy. The girl had wavy auburn hair and silver eyes. She was wearing a white blouse, black jeans and black, knee high leather boots. The boy had messy black hair and sea green eyes. He was about as tall as Jason and he was wearing a dark green, long sleeved shirt, dark jeans and black boots. They were each in the place the two wolves were in; the girl where the silver one was and the boy where the black one was.
"You should have seen your face, man! That was hilarious." The boy managed to get out between laughs.
"C'mon, Perce, cut him some slack. We are pretty scary in our wolf forms." The girl replied. Jason face-palmed.
"Great. Wolf shifters. My day just keeps getting better and better. First: the angry villager mob, then shifters. Perfect." Jason dragged the word 'perfect' out sarcastically. The shifters sobered up real quick when he said that.
"Why do you say it like that? What do you have against shifters, huh?" The black haired boy snarled at him. Jason shrugged.
"Well, you're obviously going to kill me because of what I am. I mean, it's not unusual. Killing me seems to be all the rage these days." Jason sassed. He was hoping that if he kept them talking, they would get distracted and he could escape.
"We're not going to kill you. We saw you running, figured you needed help, but I decided to play a prank on you while Arty here got rid of the villagers." The boy said. "Besides I would never kill someone because of what they are."
"But anyways, what's your name? I'm Artemis and this is Percy." Artemis said. "We're the Alpha and Beta of the Blood Moon Pack."
"I'm Jason Grace."
"Cool. So do you need a place to stay? Because we've always got room." Percy said all of a sudden. Jason was surprised.
"Why would you offer that? You barely know me."
"I know a person who needs a home when I see one." Percy answered honestly. "Plus, we'd kill you before you got the chance to hurt our family, if you even tried." Percy grinned.
"Well, in that case, I'll take up your offer. I'm tired of being chased by these damn villagers." Jason grinned back. Artemis mumbled something that sounded vaguely like 'idiots'. Jason wasn't sure.
The two shifters brought Jason back to their home where he was welcomed with open arms. He even joined their pack, even though he wasn't a shifter. Because of all this he now had a family and friends and he was happy for the first time in almost a year.
