She'd finally had enough, Lydia was going to get out of this house if it was the last thing she did. She grabbed her small bag and made a sandwich and a bottle of water. She said bye to Beetlejuice who couldn't come on the walk, due to sandworms that eat the dead when they go outside.

The teenager walked through the village until she found some woods. The trees stood tall and vibrant, their light green leaves rustling gently in the breeze, while colorful flowers sprouted from the ground, adding splashes of color to the landscape. The sun gleamed through the branches, casting a warm, golden light that made the heat feel pleasant and mild, reminiscent of a perfect spring day. After what felt like miles of wandering, Lydia stumbled upon a charming little cottage made of stone, complete with a cute front garden bursting with blooms, a chimney puffing soft wisps of smoke, and freshly washed linens swaying gracefully on the line, dancing in the gentle spring breeze.

As she approached, a woman emerged from the garden. It was Barbara Maitland, dressed in a lovely green buttoned dress, her apron dusted with soil as she pulled fresh carrots from the ground. Her hair was perfectly curled, cascading down her shoulders, framing her warm, welcoming face. When she noticed Lydia, a look of concern crossed her features. "Are you okay, sweetie? Are you lost?" she asked, her voice kind and soothing.

Lydia felt a wave of comfort wash over her. "Oh no, no, I'm new to the village, just exploring," she replied with a bright smile, feeling a sense of belonging in this picturesque scene. The warmth of the sun and the kindness of the woman made her feel at ease, as if she had stepped into a place where she could truly find herself.

After a few minutes of small talk, Barbara invited Lydia in for tea. Normally, Lydia wouldn't go into a strangers house but something told her she should. Barbara, set the  table with tea cups, saucers, and a tea pot before pouring them both a nice sugary tea.

"So, what brings you to the neighbourhood Lydia?" Barb asked sipping her tea

The teen was hesitant at first but eventually said "Oh, um.. my mom passed. Dad wanted to start fresh." Lydia looked down

"Oh, Lydia im so sorry. That must have been so hard for you.." Barb sighed softly

"Originally, we lived in New York, but hey, things change I guess. Dads getting re-married. To my life coach. It is so messed up." Lydia looked away now and let out a massive sigh.

Barbara looked at the teenager, feeling so much empathy towards Lydia. "Lydia, hey.. that's a lot, no one your age should be going through any of this. I'm so so sorry."

"It's fine, so why are you here..?" Lydia asked "in the woods."

Barbara looked off to the side and then decided it was only fair she shared her story, after Lydia so bravely did. "Me and Adam- my husband- nearly died. So, we moved house and decided to live how we wanted to instead of being scared to." Barb forced a smile.

Lydia and barb chatted for a while until Adam eventually came home. "Honey, I'm home!" He called out, hung his coat up, he came over and kissed barbs cheek before looking over at Lydia. "Who's this, sweetie?" Adam laughed.

"This is Lydia deetz, she's just moved to the village from New York." Barbara smiled and held Adams hand.

The three were sat speaking for a while until they realised it was going dark out. The Maitlands decided to walk Lydia home, as it's not safe for such a young girl to be walking through some dark woods.

Lydia knocked on the door and her father and Delia opened the door. "Oh, hello Lydia. Who are those two?" Charles asked.
"Hi, I'm barbara and this is my husband Adam Maitland." Barb smiled "we just wanted to walk her home safe."

Charles smiled and nodded "thank you, nice to meet you. I'm Charles this is Delia and I'm guessing you already know my daughter Lydia." Lydia's dad chuckled and patted his daughters back.

Barb and Adam laughed and began Intertwining their hand before they glanced at eachother. "Do you guys maybe want to come to ours for dinner tomorrow? Five ish?" Barbara asked shyly.

Charles nodded and looked at everyone "yes, sure. that should be fine. Thanks again for bringing her home. Lydia?" He glanced to his daughter
"Bye Barbara, by Adam. Thanks for walking me home." Lydia said smiling a little.

"No problem, have a nice evening." Barbara and Adam waved and embarked on their journey through the woods.
