"If it makes you feel any better, i'm not going back anytime soon.'' Clay mumbled in that same tone, he wanted there to be something between them because he knew what he felt and he wished it would never go away.
George took in those words, Even if clay were to stay around for a while, he would still inevitably leave. He wanted nothing more than to say yes, then to just cave and have a meaningful relationship with someone he got along with.
Then there was that one problem, nick.
The red head was George's best friend, he had been there through hard times and all. George couldn't imagine life without him, but he also wasn't going to give his best friend up for a man he hardly knew.
"What about nick?'' George questioned, at the time he had no idea about all the backstory and clay must have caught onto that.
"What about him?" There were several things he still didn't understand about the human world. Callie had explained the basics while they were on land but it wasn't near enough. The main thing he didn't understand was the relationships.
Families, parents, cousins and far family, the kingdom had a bunch of people but most always migrated to other kingdoms before the families ever got large.
"I can't be with someone who doesn't get along with my best friend.'' George was defending Nick at this point, he didn't know why because Nick had been awful to him the last time they spoke.
Clay realized that their friendship was deeper than he had thought. But he also knew that if he wanted absolutely anything with George then he would have to be at least equal with nick. Even if that meant he had to act like the man wasn't a traitor.
"Okay.'' Clay mumbled, he was still watching George's face as the brunette stared into the ocean. There was something so perfect about his skin, his brunette hair, the way it was wavy but fell more to one side than the other.
"Okay?" George repeated, turning his head to look at clay. He was hoping more than anything that clay would put in some kind of effort to help but he knew that Nick would have to too.
"I'll talk to him." Clay's words were soft, laced with other intentions but George chose to ignore those right about now. All he wanted to do was watch the blonde's perfect face, even if that face looked like it was slowly dying.
It was silent, it wasn't awkward or anything but the two just looked into each other's eyes. That was until George's phone began ringing.
Clay watched as he took his phone out and answered it, he answered it with his name which signaled that he might not know every person on his phone.
The blonde couldn't help but wonder what the phone was doing right now, Callie had tried to explain phone calls but he was never able to understand how someone's voice could be heard through a little electronic block.
"Yeah i'll be there in a bit.'' George assured whoever was on the other end, putting the phone back into his pocket before looking at clay again.
"That was karl, We are releasing a bunch of baby turtles later today and he needs help preparing.'' George didn't have to explain himself but he felt like he needed to tell Clay where he was going so the man didn't think that he was just leaving him here.
"Oh okay.'' Clay nodded, he also did not understand why they were releasing baby turtles because the mothers do that themselves but he would figure that out later.
George began walking towards his house once more, Clay also walked back up to his porch. Though George did stop after a couple yards and turned around to face clay again.
