I visited the website where I saw our old house and lot being on the market for sale. My cousin messaged me about it.

Ollie Soverano:

Niki, kumusta? Nakita mo na ba ang website na pinasa ko? May email address din kung sino ang pwede mong kausapin.

My cousin's name popped out from my Messenger inbox.

Niki Sol:

Yes. Thank you, Ate Olivia. Kapag naibalik ko ang bahay at lupa sa pangalan ko, libre kita pag balik ko diyan.

I replied back.

Hindi ko na binasa ang huling chat ng pinsan dahil itinuloy ko ang pag-scroll sa details ng tungkol sa bahay at lupa.

As I scrolled down about the house and lot price, I convulsed. Tumayo lahat ng balahibo ko sa katawan.

Tumataginting na dalawang milyong piso ang presyo! That would be fifty-thousand Canadian dollar!

What the hell?

I computed the price versus my salary for a whole year. Nakabawas na ang renta sa bahay, the water supply, my groceries and toiletries. Magtitipid na lang ako sa mga damit at sapatos ko. My bags were worn out but it will still do.

And oh, the debts!

Napaawang ang bibig ko. Hindi sapat. I only have six-digits on my bank account if converted to peso! Specifically, thirteen-thousand Canadian dollar only! That's the only money I saved for about years working here. Kung wala sanang utang na binabayaran ay malaki na dapat ang ipon ko.

Paano na? Paano kung may mauna sa akin at...?

I hit send.

Ilang saglit, minuto, at oras ay wala akong natanggap ni isang reply. I hissed.

Nagtipa ako ng agarang paalam para sa vacation leave. Fortunately, my boss was too tired not to say no. He made me hire a new substitute for my absence instead.
