Ever since she'd discovered her connection to the Starforce, Courtney had begun trying to connect further to it and she was grateful that Mari had some experience with that with her totem, since it was similar, so she'd started using the cosmic staff in a way it had never been used before.
Instead of using it as a weapon, Courtney was using it to further her connection to the Star Force while she meditated. It was a new experience for her, but one that she needed to do, since before they went to war with the ISA, she needed to understand her newfound powers and how to control them, since the fact that she could do something that neither her father or grandfather could do was an advantage against the ISA. One she intended to use to her advantage, the only issue was that she hadn't been able to channel the star force's power without the staff since her fight with Brainwave and she needed to find a way to access it. That was why she was taking a page from Mari's book and trying to meditate, though she didn't think it was working.
Or at least that's what she thought until she heard a male voice speak.
"Hello Courtney." a man who looked vaguely familiar to her said, though that was mainly because with the way this man looked, it was hard to forget. This was the same man who'd appeared the night the staff had bonded with her.
"You're Mar Novu right?" Courtney asked.
"I'm surprised you remember me." Novu said, since most of the heroes who knew would rather forget him.
"Looks like yours are hard to forget." Courtney said and Novu chuckled.
"I suppose that is true." Novu said.
"Why am I here, since I'm guessing this isn't the Star Force?" Courtney asked.
"No, but the fact that you're learning to access it on your own proves that you're ready for what lies ahead. And for the truth of what came before. A secret known to a select few, including your friends Jennifer Pierce and Chloe Allen, though only Ms. Pierce knows the full extent." Novu said.
"What are you talking about?" Courtney asked.
"The Crisis of Infinite Earths. Allow me to show you." Novu said as he placed his hand to Courtney's temple and showed her flashes of her cousin Kara, Chloe's brother Barry, Jen's father Jefferson, alongside Superman, Batwoman, the Green Arrow and so many other heroes fighting some huge army of shadow creatures and some kind of energy wave destroying planets.
"What was that?" Courtney asked.
"That was the destruction of the old multiverse and the rebirth of this one, caused by your cousin Kara and her friends." Novu said.
"Wow. That explains why Kara seems to already be so experienced." Courtney said, astounded by just how heroic her cousin was.
"Chloe Allen is aware of her brother's actions, since his archenemy forced him to reveal the truth to her and Jennifer Pierce is actually from the old reality. Her powers allowed her to survive. However, this is not something that you can reveal to others. I only revealed the truth about it to you because of the role you'll have in the upcoming battles." Novu said.
"What battles?" Courtney asked.
"You'll find out soon enough. But just like how your cousin has a role to play as the paragon of hope, you have a role to play as well, as the paragon of creation." Novu said.
"Wait, what's a paragon?" Courtney asked.
"Something your cousin can explain to you." Novu said.
"I'm just a teenager. How can I save the world?" Courtney asked.
"Aren't you preparing to attack the Injustice Society now?" Novu reminded her.
"That's different from the kind of thing Kara and her friends dealt with. The ISA may be evil, but they're all earth based and it's just Blue Valley for now. That's different from saving the whole world." Courtney protested.
"It's true you're still young and you have much to learn, about your staff, your powers and even yourself. But I'm certain that once you find the proper teacher, you'll become just as much of a hero as your cousin is." Novu said.
"What do you mean, the proper teacher? Pat's teaching me?" Courtney said.
"He can teach you much, but not everything you'll need to know to become the hero you're destined to be." Novu said.
"Kara." Courtney said.
"She will be one teacher for you, but there is another. One who can teach you things that no one else can. Someone who can show how to truly wield the Starforce's power." Novu said.
"Who?" Courtney asked.
"That is for you to discover on your own." Novu said, right as suddenly, a vision flashed in front of Courtney's eyes of some kind of dark, dismal planet in deep space for a few seconds before it vanished.
"What was that?" Courtney asked.
"I do not know. There are some things in the universe that are mysteries even to me. Though this is curious." Novu said.
"Do you think it has anything to do with what you mentioned the night you first appeared to me?" Courtney asked.
"Unknown, but likely." Novu said.
"So what do I do?" Courtney asked.
"Continue training, prepare as best you can for what's coming, but do not speak of what I showed you to any of your teammates besides Chloe Allen and Jennifer Pierce. The others do not need to know. At least not yet. I have faith in you Courtney. I believe that your existence on this earth will help ensure that history doesn't repeat itself. Now, I shall allow you to return to your quest." Novu said as he returned her to her meditation on Earth.
