(Y/N)'s POV

I haven't been home for too long, and my mind is trying to come up with a new thing to do. My body sprawled on my bed as I lay there deep in thought.

Charlie only wanted me to do chores on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Saturdays. Today is Wednesday, so that's not an option. I finished my homework early, so I didn't have many obligations.

My eyes felt heavy, but I fought that. Rachel has wanted me to do more than sleep. But I grow curious more often about what my next dream would lead to with such a good luck streak going here.

The worst dreams that I had here were about thunderstorms and about getting a scrap or a bruise. It's either mundane, helpful or a little bit fun here. My limbs felt weighted and glued to the bed as I lay there.

A thought came to me at that moment: a memory. Jacob told me to let him know if I wanted to hang out again.

Rachel tells me to get to know my friends better. He is a friend and a pretty nice guy so far. So he would be a good person to kill some time with.

"Hey, Rachel? Can I hang out with Jacob?" I came down the last stair on the stairwell before coming over to Rachel.

She sat on her phone at a kitchen counter; in her other hand, she loosely held her coffee cup. Her thumb slowly moved on her screen.

Birds sweetly chirped a morning tune to fill the peaceful silence in the room.

"Hmm?" She hummed her acknowledgment. The phone's screen turned black before she set it down on the counter, her full attention on me now. "Sorry, what was that?"

"I wanted to know if I could hang out with Jacob. Could I?" I wandered over to her side at the counter.

"Hmm," she hummed again before she thought about it for a moment. "Sure, but I want you back home at 9 pm. Okay?"

I nodded my head at her words. "Will do. Thank you, I'll see you at 9 pm." Turning on my heel, I got ready to go and went out the door.

The clouds covered the sky in a nice white hue, traveling slowly in the sky like a snail. The sidewalk slowly but surely turned into open grass.

Jacob wasn't in clear sight at first, so I chose to wander toward the house. Light brown dirt acted as a trail up to his home.

I knocked on the door and saw his dad, Billy Black. "Hey, I came to hang out with Jacob. Is he here?"

"He's in the back. You can go ahead over. It's nice seeing you." He rolled his wheelchair back a little so he could close the front door once more.

I wandered towards the back of the house. Jacob wasn't the first thing for me to spot. A seriously beaten-up car sat on the ground.

All of the doors and tires were missing. The seats have been ripped to near shreds. A large crater sat on top of the car. It's extremely out of shape; it makes me wonder how it all happened.

My jaw dropped at the sight of it. I couldn't imagine the accident that would have caused a miss this huge. But I carried on to look for Jacob.

Tredding forward, metal clinking slowly got louder and louder the closer that I got. "Jacob?" I crept deeper, looking from left to right for him.

"Oh, hey, where have you been, (Y/N)?" Jacob popped up from his spot. He dropped the wrench in his hand to jog over to me. An open-mouth smile rested on his face as he came up to me.

"I've been busy with chores for Charlie and homework. How have you been?" I stopped and let him come up to me.

"Good, uh..." He turned to look at the disaster of a car. "I got myself a project."

"It looks cool. What do you plan to do with it when you're done?" I slowly sat down on a stack of tires.

"I don't know yet. I'm just working." He grabbed his toolbox and came around the car to be in view.

We talked together for hours about the car and other things. He told me a lot of things that I didn't know about.

An engine roared ahead of us, in front of his house, before it stopped just in front of the house. "Who's that?"

We both got up to investigate the culprit. "Were you expecting anyone other than me?" I looked at him over my shoulder while we went around the house.

"No, only you." He sped up his pace to come up to my side.

I couldn't think of who it would be until I saw it. Bella's recognizable orange, old-fashioned truck sat in the driveway. She came out and immediately came to us.

"Hey, Bella! What brought you over?" I waved to her as she came up to us.

"I just wanted to see you two...hang out." Bella shrugged a little bit, her bottom lip caught under her teeth.

"Okay, well," I turn to Jacob. "It's your house, so it's not my place to have a say on whether she can join us or not. So, what do you think about her joining, Jacob?" I tilted my head a bit with the question.

He paused for a moment to stand there and ponder. His hair got gently swept in the mild wind coming through. It's a question of if he wanted his childhood friend to stay over at his house.

"Sure, she can come along." He looked back at me.

"Okay, then. Should we head back over to your project?" I asked him, turning slightly over toward his backyard.

"Yep," he stuffed his hands in his pockets and walked back.

"Come on, Bella." I walked with her back.

I kept in the back of my mind how I found his actions a little strange. He acted so distantly there like he didn't truly want her there that much.
