(Y/N)'s POV
A week drew by in my sickly daze at a snail's pace, but I finally started to get to feeling better, back to the same routine that I held up for a couple of months now.
The day was a cloudly one like no other, and I watched the cars go by me on my walk to school. Everything is covered in a blue hue like I'm wearing blue-tinted glasses.
But it didn't matter to me; I felt better now than I did before. Weaving through the crowded parking lot into the halls until I found my way into my biology class. Edward had found his seat before I came into the room.
He didn't bother me at all, sitting still like a marble statue, waiting for class to start. Our teacher sat at his desk, working on his computer and some papers.
"Hey," Edward dipped his head down for a second before looking my way.
"Hi," I looked at him, too, into his eyes. That dark color that I remember before they went camping and when I got sick is gone. The irises that were the same as a cloudless midnight sky changed so much.
Like a fallen leaf, his eyes matched the colors of an autumn day on the t. I found myself pausing in surprised silence at the change.
"(Y/N)?" He turned his body to face mine, eyebrows knitting together. I must have missed something that he said at that moment.
"Sorry, what?" My face heated up, being caught not paying as much attention as I should have.
"I asked you, where have you gone? You missed a week of school." His eyes searched through mine like he would find the answer.
"Oh, I've been sick. I feel much better now." I rested my head in the palm of my hand with my elbow propped on the desk.
"Well, I'm sorry to hear that." His eyes looked away from mine in favor of the window beside us.
"It's fine. Hey, speaking of, what's up with your eyes? I mean, they were this dark color, and now they've changed entirely." I leaned further on my desk to catch his eyes again.
"It's," he paused like he needed to think of an answer. "the fluorescents." Edward nodded like he was agreeing with his own answer.
"Oh, okay..." I stopped talking to him after that. It hardly made any sense to me that something like that could make such a dramatic change to a person.
English class came around with a similar issue. Alice and Rosaile's eyes are different. That familiar dark iris that almost matched the pupil perfectly is golden brown.
"Hey, Alice?" I turned to her first between the two.
"Yeah," she closed her flip phone and looked at me.
"Your eyes, can you tell me about how they're different from before?"
"I'm wearing contacts. Do you like them?" She grinned, turning her body to face mine.
I moved to face her, too. "Oh, well. They're nice." I nodded along with my lie. Contacts weren't the answer that I had expected, but it made more sense than what Edward had to say to me.
"Rosalie?" I turned to ask her, too, but she hardly responded. She more so just flipped the page in her magazine with a little more aggression.
She ignored me, so I took the hint not to test my luck on this matter with her. Mrs. Smith came up to the front of the room, stealing my attention away from my minor detective work.
Fluorescents, contacts, and no answer at all are all I got so far. The last person that I think I could ask would have to be Jasper. But I could hardly come up with an opportunity that I would ever bump into him.
I would have to seek him out personally to get anything. His schedule isn't even something that I knew. With a school this big, I would have to look for him like a cop after a criminal and be late to class.
So I figured the best chance I got was now, after school. He walked down the steps with Alice holding his arm to their car.
"Hey, um...Jasper." I came up to the two quickly. He noticeably flinched when I got in front of them. "Can I just talk to you for a second? I promise to be quick."
Jasper looked over to Alice for her opinion on the matter. "It'll be quick, Jasper." She slowly detached herself from him, heading to their car by herself.
"Right, um, Jasper?" I started to walk with him away from Alice's earshot.
"You have something to ask me?" Jasper kept his hands behind his back. He talked like every word was hard for him.
"Yes, I wanted to know about yours and all of your other family member's eyes. I'm sorry if this sounds like I'm intruding at all; I just found it strange. They were black when you all left, but now they're this golden brown."
"Alice...she thought it would be fun if everybody matched. They're contacts." He answered me; his voice sounded slightly strained like before. It's like every word took effort for him.
"Alright, thanks. Sorry again if it sounded like I'm intruding at all. I'll let you get going home." I looked down to the pavement below us.
"It's fine, bye." He turned on his heel to walk back to Alice. As he went back to her, I went off to Bella.
"Bella, want to hang out at my house today?" I came up to her next to her truck.
"Huh? Oh, um, sure." She nodded along. "That'll be cool." She shrugged her bag off her shoulders to put it in her truck.
"Okay, it'll be our favorite pastime." I joked.
"Talking about the Cullen's?" She gave a soft laugh, getting into her truck.
"Exactly," I joined her in the truck.
She's the only person that I talked to about this. Rodney and Laura would probably question me, but I had many questions. Especially many people that Rachel's making our lives slowly intertwine together like a knit blanket.
