(Y/N)'s POV
"Wake up, (Y/N)!" My blanket got pulled from my body, leaving me in the cold. I jolted awake from the sudden change. Rachel stood at my feet with my blanket in hand.
"(Y/N), hop in the shower. We need to go to the Cullen's house for dinner. Did you forget?" She tossed the blanket back on the bed before leaving the room.
I whipped my sleepiness away from my eyes. The cold floor shocked my skin, waking me more. A fancy outfit hung on the doorknob in my room. I could hear Rachel's heels clacking against the floors as she went around the house, slowly getting ready.
After getting ready, I looked for Rachel. I found her putting her earrings on in the mirror. A large vanity in front of her from a passed-away relative of hers is like a family heirloom, a prized possession of hers.
She kept the mirror clean and used to brush my hair in front of it when I was little. Many stories of that family member came to mind just looking at it. Rachel would tell me plenty of stories of the women who used to own the vanity. A real wood vanity, loving crafted by its owners husband after they got married.
"I'm ready." I slowly came into her carpeted room. My eyes swept over the table. Containers of her makeup and jewelry sat on the tabletop as they worked.
"Okay, go ahead to the car, and I'll be right there." She fumbled with her earring for a moment.
"Okay, see you out there." Dread and nerves filled my heart like a ship going under. I slowly inched toward the car until I settled into the back seat.
The car's cool leather shocked me, and I kept looking around me. In and out of the car, it is shrouded in almost complete darkness. I could probably see two feet outside of the car.
Stars shimmered in the sky like beautiful little lights before getting covered by clouds flying by. The grass retired for the night, staying still like time had stopped for them for a moment. Trees cast shadows around like a game to figure out who had the best shadow puppet.
The door behind me opened, sending my heart racing in surprise. I had forgotten that Rachel had been here yet, caught lost in a daydream.
"Hey," I watched them climb into the driver's seat.
"Hey, ready to go to the party?" They slowly reversed the car out of the parking lot; gravel crunched under the wheels like its version of pop rocks.
"Yep," I nodded, even though I knew she shouldn't see it. My eyes were glued to the outside as we zipped past everything.
Our neighborhood faded away behind us like a friend we were leaving behind. I hardly knew what to expect their house to be like in a small town like Forks. It's a small town with many middle-class citizens calling the place home.
Houses slowly disappear like a magic trick before my eyes. Life put the houses into a hat and pulled trees to decorate the land before us. Forest road stretched out for minutes ahead of us.
Trees so tall that Rachel had to turn high beams on just to see ahead of her. The canopy above blocked the moonlight, casting us in a darker silence. Lights slowly came into sight.
A house with an open architecture came into our view, shining bright like a star on earth. It's a modern design for a rich person's home.
I didn't expect anything less from the Cullens. They didn't exactly hide that they had some wealth stowed away. Cars that gleamed and shined in the school's parking lot and rumors of their money spread rampant in the school faster than any other.
And I would probably be the first person in the whole school who would ever step inside the place. Rachel and I stepped out of the car.
Rachel easily went with the flow, conversing with Carlisle and Esme like they went to school together and needed to catch up after a decade. In my mind, I stuck out like a sore thumb, standing idly next to her. It's like she bumped into someone in the grocery store and talked to them for hours.
"Honey, go talk to some of your classmates from school. It's a party." Rachel paused in her conversation. A warm hand came to the middle of my back to push me forward.
I resigned to wandering the house around me, only on this floor. Quickly, I found a balcony; I watched the stars outside. A calm, steady arrangement to form constellations in the sky.
"Hey, (Y/N)!" Alice's familiar voice got followed by a thump. She stood next to me, her pale face revealed from the dark by light from the house.
My heart raced, and my soul almost left my body. "Alice! Hey, you started me." I didn't expect to see her out of the blue like that.
But a second thump followed; this time, I was ready to see that Jasper followed suit. "Sorry, we didn't mean to do that." His head peered over her shoulder.
"Oh, look, you're wearing the outfit I bought for you. Isn't it nice?" She looked at Jasper over her shoulder in excitement.
"Yes, it is." He looked at my outfit before looking at her with a smile. Seeing her happy brought him joy.
"I think I'll go ahead to the table." I left the two lovebirds alone, pulling out a chair for myself.
In groups of two or more, everyone sat down at the table to have dinner. Rachel kept on talking with Esme and Carlisle, and I just silently ate my food.
Every now and then, I served a glance to everyone around me. But when I looked forward at Alice, she had that look on her face. Her eyes were on me, but it's like she's watching a film that I couldn't see.
It caught me off-guard. I didn't expect to see this at the dinner party. I've only seen her do this one time before at school one time.
