It made me leave [Kunikuzushi x female reader]

Chapter 1

"Kuni!" Y/n was running in Kunikuzushi's direction with two Lavender Melons in her hold. Kunikuzushi was sitting under a tree with closed eyes but peeked in Y/n's direction with one eye as he heard her voice in the distance.

She waved her hand in the air with a big smile as her kimono fluttered in the wind and her eyes gleamed in the moon's light. When she came up to Kunikuzushi, she gave him the Lavender Melon in her right hand as the other one already had some parts bitten.

"Hehe, I got a little hungry on the way back." Y/n sheepishly rubs the back of her neck with a giggle. He says nothing and just takes a bite of his melon, it tasting bitter as it's not meant to be eaten as is.

She sits down beside him and they eat quietly. The only sound being heard between them is the crunch of the melon being bitten and the soft wind touching the leaves of bushes and trees.

"Come. Let's find a place to rest." Kunikuzushi says. He reaches his hand out to the girl and she places her hand in his with a smile.

They go to a nearby river and wash their hands to rid their fingers of the sticky substance produced by the Lavender Melons. Y/n splashes some water at Kunikuzushi and he looks at her unamused as he splashes some water back at her. She giggles and just to annoy him further, she dries her hands on his clothing with a teasing grin.

He sighs, "So immature..."

She shrugs, "Where did you plan for us to go tonight?"

"There's a place further in the forest that looks promising. I didn't have time to check it out completely before." He stares down at his reflection in the water with a blank face.

"We should hurry then! You look like you'll fall asleep any second now." She laughs in his face and stands up straight.

"I do not." Kunikuzushi denies it with a shake of his head.

"Sure~"

Kunikuzushi guides her through the dark forest but has to stop every two meters since Y/n gets distracted by the surroundings. He feels his patience running thin but he would never actually yell at the girl by his side, the girl far too important to lose by some mere annoyance.

"Here it is." In front of them stands a small hut. He goes into it and looks around inside with Y/n hot on his heels.

"Hm, it'll do." The hut was completely empty but it would keep them dry if it would begin to rain during the night. They sit down in the left corner and Y/n leans on his shoulder with a sigh. Kunikuzushi lays his head on hers and listens to her steady breaths as she falls asleep.

Kunikuzushi feels exhausted. He's been wandering all over Inazuma with this girl for a year now and he has no idea what to do. Where would they go? What do they have to do to live peacefully? He doesn't know.

How is he supposed to protect this girl in this messed-up world?
