Summary: You reunite with your father and try and develop a plan to escape. Will your father go with you, though?
Warnings: None
~
You stand by the table, looking down at your father. You don't know what to say. Crosshair looks at Captain Kaldor.
"Kaldor... what are you doing here?"
"Helping her."
"I told you already, I-"
You know what he was going to say. He doesn't want to see you. Crosshair looks at your face as you desperately try to hide the fact that you're starting to cry again.
"It's fine. You can say it."
Crosshair sighs, sitting up. "You two are going to get yourselves imprisoned. Go."
"Not without you." You say firmly.
"I said, go." Crosshair repeats. "All of them are much better fathers than I ever was."
"I-" You begin. How are you supposed to respond to that?
Captain Kaldor walks over to the door, making sure nobody is coming your way.
"You're going with us. I won't leave you."
~
"I hate to break up your little moment here, but we don't exactly have the luxury of time." Captain Kaldor says urgently."Do you really think that the squad will want to see me? I left you all. I'm not them."
"You left me, and I came back for you. They'll come around again. They'll forgive you." You plead.
"I am not them!" Crosshair yells, standing up.
You take a few steps back. Crosshair's expression immediately softens.
"Y/N, I-"
"You're my father! I have tried countless times to find you and I've always failed until now. Are you really telling me that after all of this work, I'm just supposed to... to give up?!"
"It's for your own good!"
"Guys..." Kaldor says. "They're headed our way."
"I don't care! You're coming with us! Do you really want to be tortured by the Empire for the rest of your life?"
"I deserve it!"
Crosshair's voice becomes more shaky. "After everything I've done... I deserve it."
~
"Y/N, we need to go." Captain Kaldor says, grabbing your arm lightly.
You shake him off. "No! Not without him!"
You jump at the sound of a squadron of Imperial soldiers kicking the doors open.
"Neutralize them!" One of them shouts.
"No, we need them alive!" You hear Dr. Hemlock add.
You flip one of the tables over and hide behind it next to Captain Kaldor. Crosshair takes cover using another table.
"We don't have weapons!" Kaldor yells.
"We don't need them." You say, standing up.
"Y/N, what are you-"
"Hold your fire!" Dr. Hemlock shouts.
~
Dr. Hemlock walks forward, smiling maliciously.
"You must be Y/N L/N."
"That's right."
"The daughter of Commander Crosshair..." Hemlock chuckles. "So desperate to find him. But he never wanted you, did he?"
You grit your teeth. How many people did he tell about that?"You don't scare me." You say firmly.
Hemlock laughs. "You misunderstand me, Y/N. I don't want you to fear me. I just want your cooperation."
"In what, Hemlock?" You snarl. "I won't be a part of whatever unethical experiments you go through with."
"I am not looking for your blood. I do need to test CT-9904's blood, though."
"You won't."
"Y/N. Think about this." Captain Kaldor whispers to you.
You ignore his words, pushing your hand forward towards Hemlock and his guards, feeling the same powerful sensation flow through you as they all get knocked backwards. As Hemlock gets up, he holds up his hand to signal to his guards not to fire again.
"Incredible..." He murmurs.
"Take my blood, Hemlock. Leave him out of this." You plead, gesturing to Crosshair. "My blood has got to be useful, right? Look what I just did."
Hemlock smiles. "You may just be the missing piece we've needed."
Out of the corner of your eye, you see Kaldor weakly stand up and quickly use his blaster to fire a shot at every single person standing in front of you; even Dr. Hemlock.
"That won't hold them off for long. Go!" Kaldor yells.
You take one last look at the wounded soldiers and Hemlock in front of you before you grab Crosshair and start running away. You see Hemlock smile darkly as you exit.
~
Your heart is pounding and your breathing is quickening as you run, helping Crosshair as you follow Captain Kaldor.
"Leave me, Y/N! You won't make it!" Crosshair urges you.
"No! I'll do this- or I'll die trying!" You respond, continuing to help him as you run.
Captain Kaldor is struggling as he runs. He's in worse shape than Crosshair in some ways.
"We'll take my ship." He wheezes.
You all run to the docking bay where Captain Kaldor's ship is. The Imperial soldiers have already started to return back to the base. They watch as you all run on to Kaldor's ship.
"Imperial business! Return to your posts! That's an order!" Captain Kaldor yells.
You all run up the ramp to get on the ship, all of you collapsing on the floor as soon as you lift the ramp back up. You leave the two of them for a moment as you run up to the cockpit. The controls aren't familiar to you like the ones on the Marauder.
"Dank farrik! How do you fly this thing?" You shout.
Captain Kaldor groans. "Give me a second. I'll be up there soon."
You look behind you and watch as Kaldor limps towards the cockpit. He sits down next to you. He silently presses a few of the buttons, flips two switches, and pilots the ship out of the docking bay.
~
After you all are off-world, you go find Crosshair. He's sitting on the ground with his eyes closed. He looks deep in thought, and you can tell he's frustrated. You sit down next to him.
"You're more reckless than the rest of the squad. If that's even possible..." Crosshair says quietly.
"I know you're upset with me. I know that you don't want to see the squad because you don't want to talk it out with Hunter, but I wasn't going to let my own father be experimented on by Hemlock."
"I'll go with you to them, but don't expect a happy reunion."
"I know."
You two sit in silence next to each other for a while, both of you processing the events of earlier.
Crosshair eventually breaks the silence. "What was that... thing you did earlier? Where you pushed them all back?"
You sigh. "That's a conversation for tomorrow..."
