THE FOLLOWING MORNING WHEN JAEHYUN AND JAMES HAD PARTNERED UP FOR POTIONS AS they had been doing for quite awhile the Korean most definitively noticed his unusual quietness and whimpers every now and then. It didn't really bother Jaehyun in the sense that it annoyed him but it was rather worrying him than disturbing his peace. Every chair that James sat on you could hear a faint wince or whimper as if it had been hurt. Jaehyun of course did not notice the obvious signs of what had actually happened, never really having thought of such catergorized adultery. "Are you alright? Did you and Seohyun you know.. last night?"
James choked on his own saliva in pure shock, sure the whimpers were an obvious hint but he had been sure to keep signs at the lowest he possibly could. "Did.. Did what?" He asked cautiously. Jaehyun smiled sympathetically as if trying to comfort him even if James actually did not need such. Jaehyun was clearly not seeing the bigger picture.
"Well, you know.. Did you two practice Quidditch?" He asked. As fast as it had came the anxiety and fear had left. James felt the heat that his risen fall back down again. He chuckled and nodded, Seohyun had been telling Jaehyun that they met up so many times for the sake of James being a possible canditate for being the following Quidditch captain. So of course, as naive as and kind that Jaehyun was he of course believed them right away.
James was surprised that Jaehyun had not caught on to it yet. "Oh, Oh! Yeah, yeah we did.. Your brothers rougher than he appears to be." He joked, though he did not mean on the field. Jaehyun smiled in comfort and nodded, "He's quite rough about stuff he is passionate about, I'm sorry that he went hard on you, but that is surely because he sees the potential." He softly explained, James nodded kindly accepting the words even though it was really not that what he had been referring to. But, it was nice to know, Seohyun Ryu was passionate about his love for James Potter.
"How rough was it? I'm sure you have got to be extremely sore." Jaehyun stated, James laughed and nodded. He was quite sore yes, not on the places one would normally think off but he was sore.
That was what Jaehyun had told Remus when they went for their regular study session at the library. The cookies had been placed messily on their plate and stood in front of them waiting to disappear one by one. Whilst the paper essays were simply laying there in peace it was causing great distress to the ones who were supposed to write it. "And you are telling me that James was sore.. And winced when he sat down?" Remus spoke quietly, as if in shock.
Jaehyun nodded with a cookie crumble falling to the ground as he bit into his delicious cookie. "Yeah, I just feel so bad! Seohyun probably went way overboard with his training which caused him to be this sore!" He exclaimed in distress, Remus stared at him dumbfounded that he had yet to realise what had actually happened back there.
"Oh Jae.. I umh.." He was debating whether or not to tell him that his friend and his brother had done something quite different than training last night. "Yeah no, I'm sure it isn't anything that James couldn't handle." He finished off, deciding against the idea and putting on a sympathetic grin which Jaehyun gladly returned as he munched on his cookie.
"So.. Sirius asked me to ask you this.. but, why is Regulus hanging around you?" Remus asked changing the conversation immediately. Regulus and Sirius had always been quite difficult to talk about, to either of them the other was deemed a traitor, one who left them. Jaehyun had frozen up quite literally and paused before continuing their conversation.
He wondered if it was really the right thing to do, to tell Sirius what he and Regulus had been planning for weeks now. How that a small mistake could easily ruin their sought out plan and could get either or both of them killed. The plan was dangerous, it could end both of their lives and yet they went through with it, putting effort in trying to kill themselves as if they had a death wish, as if that small percentage of hope was enough to keep them fighting for their own freedom.
Jaehyun hesitated and chewed the inside of his cheek, "Umh.. well, look.. It is a.. It's quite a long story.. me and Regulus are trying something, quite really dangerous for the both of us. But, it narrows down to trying to get him out of the Black house." He sceptically explained as he tried to keep his mouth about the plan as much as possible.
Remus narrowed his eyes for a second, "If that is all you want to tell me, alright." He nodded. Remus frowned once again as he seemed to be in deep thoughts about what he had just heard. He subconsciously bit the bottom of his lip and furrowed his brows every once in a while.
"Jaehyun.. Do you have the slightest idea of how dangerous that family is?" He asked in a concerned tone. Jaehyun quickly nodded as if offended he tried to make it sound as if he did not risk the entirety of his life for the freedom of his friend.
"Of course I do! Do you have any idea how dangerous this could possibly be for me as well?" He responded agitated. Remus was quite shocked once that Jaehyun had ended up being in such distress showing he did in fact know how this could end one or the other's life.
"We have thought this plan through many times, I want Regulus to be safe even if it did cost me my life!" He exclaimed. Remus stared at him, for a split second he did not see Jaehyun sitting in front of him, he saw James. The one who oath to give his life to his friends between a situation of life and death. He saw Sirius who loved so passionately you could be surprised at how absolutely beautiful of soul he genuinely had. Sirius who would kill himself if that meant ensuring the safety of his friends.
Remus sighed and nodded, his hand reached for Jaehyun's underneath the table. "I'm not saying I don't trust your plan, I don't trust the Black family." He stated calmly, slowly calming the nerves of the boy sat in front of him. Jaehyun his breath hitched and he nodded, staring back down at his feet.
"We are planning to lie."
"Excuse me?"
"We are planning to lie to them, force them to disown Regulus." He explained. "We are going to say that he made an Unbreakable Vow, to marry the love of his life, to die when I die." He explained. "That he would never marry one of the chosen girls and he fell in love with a muggle boy."
"But an Unbreakable Vow is only possible between two wizards, that would not be plausible."
Jaehyun nodded, "We will tell them that Regulus made the Vow to Sirius. That he promised to keep me safe till his death, that if I die he will die with me." He explained. Remus paused for a brief minute, taking all of this information in.
"Jaehyun this is very dangerous." He stated worried, Jaehyun merely nodded with a toothy grin. "Well nothing if fun if no danger right?" He replied though he himself was unsure whether or not he believed such himself. Remus frowned, "This could go wrong in so many ways, if they send him home and make him take a Veritaserum?"
Jaehyun frowned and sighed, "I don't think that will happen, the pride they have could never possibly want someone who speaks to muggles enter their house." He stated, "And.. We will see if anything ever goes that far." He explained seeming mote worried than he had before.
Remus sighed and nodded.
That night Jaehyun had proposed that outcome to Regulus as well which got the both of them to think deeply in silence.
"I can tell them that I accept being disowned, and am leaving the family." He explained carefully, though seeming unsure of that outcome himself as well. Jaehyun frowned but nodded nonetheless, a deep breath coming out as a sigh. Regulus placed a hand on his shoulder, "Do not worry, everything will work out in our favour, I know it will."
Even with that promise Jaehyun could never be sure about it. He had clearly underestimated the great power of the ancient Black family. Losing their very last heir could end up ruining them by itself with more than ease.
Jaehyun nodded with a forced smile and grinned kindly, "Of course." He stated with a bit more confidence, him and Regulus against the world. Like it had been in the beginning when Regulus joined a year younger yet seemed so much more mature than he could ever be. Like in Jaehyun his third year when Regulus seemed to hang around him so much less because his parents had gotten involved yet would wake up with small drawing of constellations on his notebook which referred to Regulus of course. Like in Jaehyun his fourth year when Regulus barely spoke to him and deliberately avoided contact with him and still made an excuse for them to be paired up because he so called needed a tutor.
Like it had always been.
Regulus and Jaehyun against their family, against what fate had chosen for them, against everyone else.
