I woke up to the smell of coffee

I woke up to the smell of coffee. My dad must have woken up extra early today, or not slept at all. Sometimes I worry about his health.

I meet June halfway down the stairs, she looked excited. Raising a questioning eyebrow, I proceeded to grab some cereals and pour some milk. She opted to eat something more... classy. An apple.

We both ate in quiet and my dad ran us through the new weekend training we were going to have.

When you're blessed the council assigns you your specific training timetable so that they can suit your abilities, schedule etc. It usually takes about 2 months for the council to decide on the appropriate training but they were careless this year, we've barely had any guidance and its already May.

After the small explanation from my dad, we made our way out of the house and to school.

The school's lunch hall smelled of sweat and rotten meat. June was sitting next to her new friends, the cheerleading squad, and I had just arrived. I debated on the idea of joining her, but thinking about how the usual conversations go with the more popular girls I opted not. I saw Akiro sitting at a small table at the back, eating a sandwich and writing something on a notepad.

I approach him, sitting down in front of him.

"Hey, Akiro! I'm sorry for leaving like that yesterday... Did you at least like the night?" I ask, taking my lunch box and eating it as well.

"It was fun..." He trailed off. "Hey, can I ask you something?"

"Sure, I can't promise I'll answer personal questions, though." I pointed out but smiled.

"Do you ever avoid having friendships because you're scared of hurting someone?" He asks, looking me in the eyes.

"Yeah... But you can trust me, I've been through enough to not get hurt easily." I smile but he just looks a bit conflicted. After a few seconds, he looks up and just smiles gratefully. I put my hand over his in a comforting manner.

Sadly, his face quickly went back to stone cold and he retracted his hand. I raised an eyebrow but shrugged it off. After we both finished eating in silence, I asked what lesson he had next.

"We have science together right?" He asked, gathering his things.

"You're always so quiet I don't even notice you're there." I nudge him with my elbow and he just smiled softly.

We talk to science and quickly sit down, me changing my seat next to his and hoping the teacher didn't notice.

As the classroom began to fill, the cover teacher walked in and the whole class started talking really loudly, having no respect for the teacher.

I groaned inside and looked around, making sure I took full notice of everyone. I quickly scribbled that the leader of the track team was clearly crushing on the smartest girl in class. It's always important to remember relationships.
